We have a little trip from up north down to rhe broads for a week on a boat planned for next week. Nothing too special but its more of a pooch test as we are taking the little fur ball with us to see how he gets on.
He loves getting in the car and loves getting out but is less keen on the bit in the middle. He gets all stressed out as he expects to be somewhere new and exciting within minutes of setting off so a 5 hour drive will be interesting. Then there is living on a boat for a week, but hey ho we shall see how it pans out with the little fella.
If it goes well , it will open up things for us as I do a number of car shows/events throughout the year and we could take him along rather than look for dog sitters. If he is cool with the boat them overnight hotel.stays will also become available to us.
So the last few weeks have involved me driving around aimlessly with a pooch in the car just trying to get him readied for his adventure.
It feels like taking him along has doubled the cost of the break as a new dog bed was required apparantly, a new travel dog box come bed thing for in the car was also required not to mention rhe cost of driving him about for weeks.
Now we just need a cry of 'dog overboard' and next week will be complete

We picked our puppy up from North Yorkshire last October, he was 15 weeks old and drove down to the Costa Blanca with a 24h ferry included. He was great and loves the car now with the back window open.He loves getting in the car and loves getting out but is less keen on the bit in the middle. It seems almost every other dog in the world loves an open car window except ours.
He associates the car with going somewhere new and exciting so will take himself off to sit in the car waiting for us to lock up but then expects that 'somewhere new and exciting' to be reached within minutes so just trying to train or educate him that it can take a while !
Hoping to stop after about an hour so he thinks this is good and have a little walk etc. Then back in car and hopefully stretch out the next stint a bit further.
Playing it all by ear and I'm sure we can get him more relaxed about journey times

Longy, without trying to be funny please will you you get him a suitable dog life jacket in case he does fall in ? The Broads will be very busy and many of the other boat "captains" will have no clue how to manoeuvre. He loves getting in the car and loves getting out but is less keen on the bit in the middle. I have taken dogs on the Broads for years and generally they love it !
What boat are you hiring ? If you are able to pass under Potter Heigham Bridge I would recommend that you do so. The best part of the Broads imo.

Particularly the regular pub trips with treats...
Something we discovered with our dog Mott (bit of a doofus) is that as the boat is often moored up on different sides - what was last night bank may tomorrow be water... Mott who is a leap before you look kinda guy found out the hard/wet way...
Our two just nod off now once they are in the car though and they make regular appearances at cars and coffee events/shows.
As an aside - someone asked about Potter Heigham bridge. We picked up our boat from there and were told that Potter Heigham bridge wasn't accessible by their boats (ours was 6ft6in clearance) as the bridge is slowly sinking and the height is too low. Perhaps not an issue for the yachts with sails etc lowered or non-tourist boats. It was great to go under Wroxham bridge though and head north west - much quieter as the bigger boats weren't/couldn't venture up.
Either way - enjoy your week - it will be a blast.
That looks lovely Rich and not a bit pointy at all.
At least the weather seems to have kicked in a bit more as it was sunny by about 10am here. It's been glorious since although we'd had our Grandson today we've made the most of the weather being out in the garden with him. Might have a glass of something cool sat in the garden this evening.

A doggy life vest has been booked so should be okay. I think he will be fine on rhe boat and I'm not expecting too many issues with him on hoard it's just the journey there and then home, but it's not long till we go so I shall update as appropriately.
I've just realised it's Thursday and that means takeaway Thursday in this household so no cooking for me tonight and looking at the pics of that beautiful lagonda I think I shall get my steed out of the garage for a bit of a polish.

My neighbour has a 30-acre woodland. He phoned me yesterday morning "I've got the tree surgeons doing some tidying up, come and help yourself".
7 trailer loads of oak and birch so far which will be ready for Autumn 2024. Cutting, splitting and stacking is going to take me a week. In the cold snaps last Winter I was running two stoves for about 14 hours a day so this free wood is wonderful.
Pottering around on my little tractor during office hours never fails to make me happy.

Going of the topic of this thread for a moment, this is for me and my son one of the highlight weekends of the year. The Le Mans 24 hours race starts shortly. This year it's the event's 100th anniversary, and the introduction of new classifications commensurate with climate change, EVs, etc. It also has meant the return of a significant number of manufacturer's teams eg Cadillac, Ferrari, Porsche. Ferrari on pole for the first time since 1973..a big surprise. Could be a very memorable race this year.
We first went to Le Mans in1996 and we went many times since then, but my increasing age and mobility issues mean that it's now sofa time with the event streamed to the lap top and tv. Son and I have invariably been together somewhere to jointly enjoy the race in past years but this year my recent knee surgery means this has not been possible.
So, supply of 1664s, Epoisees, baguettes etc are all handy to enjoy during the race. I hope we have a good one!
