Residuals on used EVs are a developing problem.

A dealer I spoke to recently said he won’t sell them secondhand as they get to a certain age when they are expensive to finance due to the projected low future residual value or ballon set by the finance companies. A 6 year old EV, at future contract end, has a potential expensive battery life issue.

As a cash buyer you have to weigh up what a long term EV will be actually worth as battery life fades.
As usual, you've taking a mish mash of information and cherry picked the bits that suit your narrative.

Getting 6 year old EV stock would be the limiting factor given their rarity, not funding reselling it.

The typical dealer funding mechanism for a typical 6 year old ICE car wouldnt be PCP anyway - it would be HP, for a variety of reasons - low residual value on most 9-10 year old cars, high interest rates, risk profile of cars of that age.

If he was a franchised dealer he likely wouldnt want to be putting 6 year old car on his forecourt anyway.

Values for EVs are anything but a problem by the way. They're crazy high on used cars and are likely to remain that way with prices set to remain high or go even higher for petrol and diesel.

You need to read the post, you’ve made some incorrect assumptions. These are 2-3 year old EVs being financed out to ~ 6 years. Not current 6 year old EVs for sale.

I am thinking to save fuel costs I could make the kids walk home (4 miles) from school. As long as they are back before it gets dark. (This should be fine during the summer months and good exercise for them). wink
Depending on their ages cycling that distance isn't a silly idea. 30 mins at 8mph.

We cycled to school from the age of around 8, was only 1.5 miles to our middle school though.

Washed the dog in the garden with the hosepipe yesterday, that saved £50.
You pay someone £50 to wash your dog? £50!!!
No I don't.

It used to be something like £28 for a large dog and they put it upto nearly £50.

He's not been since, but also hadn't been washed for about a year.

Is your dog large ?
Not been washed for a year! Phew, peg on nose. What might be living within the coat ?

We don't have a dog now, but had a succession of smaller sized labradors.
Always washed them in the bath. Stood or sat quite happily in warm water (hosepipe sounds a little unkind) and then dog shampoo was applied, followed by a rinse and drying. Smelt lovely after that and appeared to enjoy the activity.

Cost - well I suppose some warm water, a small quantity of shampoo and some power for the hair dryer.
Don't know how much, but it must have been 'buttons'. £50 gosh!
German Shepherd so pretty big. The £20 odd for not having to deep clean the bathroom after a dog bath was worth it.

Can't say I ever notice him smelling but the missus did mention she thought she could smell him the other week hence the garden hose coming out.

I tend to mix up where I do my food shopping, and it seems the gulf between the cheaper stores and more expensive is getting bigger. My Aldi shop this morning was less than £31, whereas it's around £60 now at Sainsbury's. Sainsbury's used to be £45-50 or so.

Sainsbury's now are a similar price to M&S, so no wonder their market share is declining. Morrisons seems to have increased a fair bit, too- their market share is also down. Can't speak for Tesco and Asda as I don't shop there- similar trend, or not quite as bad?

My local Aldi was rammed this morning as well, and it's not difficult to see why. I'm sure more than a few people have switched recently.

Why does the gas bill annoy you?! Be thankful you have gas.

I also have infrared heating in another property. It’s pretty good but of course is only effective when you are sat directly in its line.
Oh I'm thankful I have it, Just hate paying the bill. All this talk of cutting back has really made me think of how wasteful I've been over the years, switching everything on and not bothering to turn if off when not needed. My OCD will be in full swing until I'm satisfied I'm doing everything I possibly can
There's lots of things you can do but most involve spending money that might not break even for years.

A smart thermostat linked to TRV's so you can zone each room in your house would be a good start if you haven't done so already.

I'd also be making sure all the insulation is up to scratch, things like loft insulation can be sorted for a couple of hundred quid and takes a couple of hours to do and can make a big difference.

I bought one of these - it was a real eye opener when using it around the house.

Do like someone I know and fill the kettle from the hot tap before boiling, as apparently he has already heated that water and may as well use it. Till you explain that it may not be that healthy drinking water from your hot water tank.

We used to do this every day. Until one day i came home one afternoon and found the flask had exploded. I’m assuming user error on my part.

Heating up water takes a lot of energy so I actually thought the saving would be higher. My OH always fills the kettle upto the max and it drives me nuts.

What surprised me was the phone chargers. We've got atleast 4 plugged in permanently so that 24w continous wasted. We've also got baby camera and monitor that are never switched off, ever.

Oops. rolleyes

We'd a freestanding floor lamp that we kept on most evenings from dusk to bedtime where we were sitting. Turns out it was drawing 120W of power. Replacement LED bulb and it now uses 6W.

Do phone chargers draw power when they're not charging?

They are still acting as a transformer generating heat.

Sticks.

Yes, I guess wouldn't cost a lot if only one at a time but my O/H had one of those tower things with six plugged in all the time

Why not ?

I guess it depends on your plumbing - in the very old days to water still had lead pipes but not so much these days.

A Quooker or simiilar 'hot water tap' is basically a small hot water tank, it doesn't actually heat the water on demand.

In general, I can't see the problem in filling your kettle from the hot tap. What am I missing ?

We are white collar / desk job DINKYs - so in theory we are ok - though we have a big mortgage which is our choice - now that we work at home 4 of 5 days. We are a little concerned of any impending house price correction.

We have stopped the takeaways and shop around food wise - it difficult to drop the good quality Ocado food drops for Aldi all the time. Keep trying to reduce the gas boiler time for the hot water ( 45 mins plus 2x 15 mins per day??) for two showers and washing up. Have started having more cool /cold showers for cost and health reasons - thanks Wim Hoff!!

Need to rationalise the tv subscriptions though……
