The idea of wearing an item of clothing that has been in direct contact with my skin for a day without washing it is alien to me. Of course I’ve done it after unplanned sleepovers or whatever but certainly not a habit I would want to get into.

I remember that. I found that mind boggling.

But if it gets them through the day then I support it fully.

Don't mind wearing joggers a couple of times, but t shirts get worn once (unless it's only for an hour or two), I do sweat quite a bit though.

That is actually my method on long distance cycling trips when you're carrying everything on your bike plus a tent, only worn in the evening minds, cycling shorts tend to get rinsed every day or two, shirts when they smell. Merino wool works brilliantly in that regard, preventing smell. Its only after a month away you appreciate the effectiveness of a washing machine.

You can get six days out of a g string by rotating it and then doing the same inside out.

Bed sheets every other sexual partner.

Shaved my head (I was thinning anyway) save myself probably £20 per month, total revelation and confidence booster, and I'm richer smile

Me too. I wonder if I’m strange because I seem to have more washing than the rest of my family combined.

Strangely I have an exception with jeans which can go without a wash until they develop penicillin

Our tumble drier is rarely used now. Started to use the washing line as much as possible, great at this time of year anyway!
That was the biggest single energy saving by far.

All new A rated kitchen appliances & a new boiler fitted during new kitchen install. That was planned & purchased at the end of last year luckily. the ovens alone are £300 more expensive now!
The old gas range has gone, induction hob now. None of it cheap, but was being done anyway. Will save in the long run.

why on earth would people use a tumble drier over hanging out washing if weather permits? Energy crises or not that's a daft thing to do

It takes less time to move a load from a washing machine to a drier than it does to hang/clip in on a washing line.

How crammed full of crap is your life that you can't find 10 minutes to hang some washing out. I have never had a tumble dryer and never felt the need to buy one.

Cool
But most people do have a tumble drier & use them every day. Just a case of breaking the habit, if you have the space for a line.
Anecdotally some say they prefer towels etc to be tumbled, personally I prefer them rougher after line drying!

I think thats exactly it - we've all got used to cheap energy so the most convenient option has become prevalent for many.

I do think cheap energy is now a thing of the past, so people are going to have to think more about how to keep the bills down.

Going through all our insurances, switching, and also changing to up front payment upon renewal. They can charge silly APR for the convenience of monthlies. Upping the excess on the home insurance from 250 to 500 makes a saving of 100pa. We would never claim for silly little things (eg broken TV, or smashed mirror etc, they would load premium next year anyway) so a good saving there.

Sticks.

And:

When I used to commute for a lot of the year I'd leave and get home in the dark;
2nd guessing the weather when out all day;
Need it in an hour not a day;
Several loads of washing;
No need for further airing;
Prefer towels not to be like sandpaper;
I hate ironing.

Fiction.

Most people will not have a tumble drier.
