I have a Morgan Stanley Platinum card which I chose because of the excellent level of customer service. Since then, it has been taken over by Goldfish who seemed to maintain the level of customer service Morgan Stanley offered.

However, I have a letter from Barclaycard saying they will cancel my Morgan Stanley card and replace it with a Barclaycard 'Cashback' card.

I used to have a Barclaycard and cancelled it due to their insistence on using Indian call centres. I now refuse to use the services of companies who do this and was wondering if anyone who has a Barclaycard (Especially a 'Cashback Card') could tell me if they still use Indian call centres?

I believe that calls overflow there during busy times & calls go there out of UK peak times. I'm not exactly thrilled about my financial information being offshored, so may change mine soon, after 20+ years. If anyone else will take me!

Pass.

If you have a Morgan Stanley, they're cancelling that and giving you a Barclaycard Cashback on the same terms. No idea what happens if you already have a Barclaycard Cashback !!

I have a Barclaycard but don't use it. I was happy with Morgan Stanley until they went Goldfish, at which point I got pee-ed off with their security dept stopping my card every time I went abroad, and talking to people in another country who didn't know English.

Went CapitalOne with cashback 6 months ago, and have been happier with them.

Barclays retail and card services are all primed in India... Only retention and issue resolution is now in the UK. Interestingly all of the non-English voice service is in Ireland I believe!

I just had the unpleasant experience of having to deal with this lot today.

I recently applied for a BarclayCard, after being a customer over 10 years ago.

Apparently my old account had not be closed as instructed, as my application was denied because "you are already a customer".

I called to discuss this and got put through to the Indian call centre. Armed with my customer number I attempted to give it to someone who could bring up my account details. I got hung-up on, slung back in to the queue and hung-up on again - and all this BEFORE I had even managed to give my customer number. The last girl refused to take the reference number and preceded to me a grilling in Englishese as to what I expected her to do with it??! (I could think of a few things...)

Finally on my 4th call I simply said I was a customer who wished to cancel. They took my number. Brought details up. Yep, current customer, no cancellation on account. Account now closed.

Have had to write to customer relations in the UK asking for written confirmation.

Given up on resolving getting a new account. I don't want it now anyway after all this "customer service".

Only time I have ever spoken to Barclaycard was a northern chap with the same name as me and the same date of birth except the year was slightly different.

No help to the OP but thought I'd share.

Snap! I had the MS platinum and it got replaced with the barclaycard. I didn't want a barclaycard - the APR is rubbish if you do ever run a balance, and their customer service is legendary, and not in a good way. Still, I couldn't be arsed to change it. That was, until I put it in my wallet and simultaneously my Oyster card stopped working. The barclaycard doubles as a contactless payment card (they also do one with built in oyster, but i don't think mine was one of them) and it was interfering with the Oyster card. Bad. So I called them and cancelled it, they gave me my cashback wired into my current a/c and that was that. I have about 9 cards so one less didn't matter.

Note - if you phone up to cancel the card you should get to speak to someone in England - ironic eh

Does anyone have a UK number?

I wrote to the complains department who say they'll reply within 5 days. Obviously they haven't.

I'm unable to get through to anyone in the UK who will help me.

Ahrrrrr.

Edited to add: found a business account phone number, who were happy to help smile
