Hi folks,

My wife has just told me something that has made my blood boil, so im asking the good folks of PH to assist and quote me codes, laws etc that i'll be able to use in fighting this.

RBS called my wife today to ask if we could go in for a 'review'. We've been there before - they try to sell us loans, mortgages, home insurance, car insurance, etc etc. Nothing to do with our account - just a way to bulls**t about the other services they offer. Usually takes an hour or so with some silly bint who knows nothing about money but lots about bonuses.

Anyway, they want us to go in again, so she told them that we got away next Thursday and it's not possible. Her response was 'well ok, but we may take back your overdraft whilst you're on holiday then'.

So Mrs Sider has told them to call me at work tomorrow AM and i want to be ready to fight them.

Are they right in what they say?

We have a £1k overdraft limit and do use the facility. We tend to be approx £750 o/drawn by the end of each month, but this gradually reduces as money settles etc. We've always been like this - for years - we just use the facility like a loan really. We could get a £750 loan to clear the o/d and get rid of the o/d completely, it's just it's easier really than all the paperwork. We never hit the limit, money is regular (both get paid 25th of every month), most money out is Cash, D/D or POS - no complicated transactions or transfers.

This today has made my p1ss boil and i'm that close to moving to another bank. I'm sick of the RBS and their constant 'sell sell sell'!

In theory yes they can, however it sounds more like an overzelous sales person trying to scare you into buying more services/products.

I worked at the world's local bank in the '90s and this was quite common even back then.

These days they normally have call recorders so when you escalatae this, the aforementioned person can get their just deserts!

This assumes that of course you are handling you account in a well behaved way and not breaching their T's & C's in which case they will throw the book at you
