They have a £50k holding but the bond that won was in a £3k batch that they bought in Nov 2020.

does that mean the person who won holds £50k but they only recently purchased £3k worth of bonds in November to reach £50k total and it was that recent purchase of £3k bonds that netted them the £1mil?

Yes.

It’s not the clearest the way they present this info.

Yes, but it's the bond numbers they bought in November that netted them the win.

They could have sat with £47,000 this month and won nothing.

Oh right - so the info presented relates to the actual amount bought in one go and not total holding? Thanks - the green eyed monster has receded somewhat in me!

How do you know you have won. When the results are not out till tomorrow ?

It does seem an odd way to present it, the way I see it their total holding is the amount of skin they have in the game so to speak, so that's what really matters. Which specific one of their 50,000 bonds it was that hit the jackpot seems a bit irrelevant.

Is there anything to this theory that you are more likely to win with multiple bonds ? e.g. single (say) 50k purchase less likely to win than x50 £1k ?

It certainly feels like there's an element of manipulation and control over the draws and winnings and they aren't necessarily entirely random.
My first 6 months of having a max holding saw me "win" £550 (all multiples of £25) putting me well on course for well above "average winnings" for the year... then the next 6 months gave me 1 x £25 to bring my overall winnings bang in line with the advertised "average winnings"
Just a seemed a bit convenient the way my winnings were throttled back so dramatically.

I suspect if each month people won exactly what they mathematically should win then people would also start saying it wasn't random and was rigged smile
