Cheers people

It did occur to do that - Presumably you get an online account?

Apologies - I've never, ever, looked into this and the online NS&I website doesn't really inspire me tbh

I phoned them and asked them to send me a premium bond application form as I wanted to send a cheque rather than do an online transfer.

Do it in smaller payments , you don’t have to do it all at once , my mum did it in £10k payments over a few weeks
Exactly.

I did £10.
Then £1,000.
Then £10,000.
Then £20,000.

Oooor you can set up a postal enabled account, from which you can then transfer to PBs iirc.

And if you can do it all before the end of April and you will be in the June draw. Good luck. smile

For and against buying PB's in dribs and drabs or a large investment in one go?
Is one large block of numbers likely to be more productive than several smaller tranches - I know in theory the chances should be equal, but in the real world?
And if you put in the max 50K in one go do you get allocated one solid block of numbers or is it split into smaller groups?

It's one solid block of bonds if bought in one chunk.

I bought big chunks and smaller chunks and they've all won rather randomly.

Ie, one month I think I got three £25 wins within one £5,000 block of bonds.

Then other times they've been spread around.

I wouldn't worry at all about the statistical spread.

Yeah,
Also bought with my debit card.
Quite easy really.

Out of interest, I wonder how many people have the full allowance of £50,000 ?

My wife and I do most of the time. Keep it aside for tax return then top it back up again.

So a husband will have 50k, and his wife also hold a 50k ?

Must be tough for the married stair dominating powerfully built PH directors’ spouses, podding out all those kids to soak up the multiple spare wads of £50k we all have… cool

Seems odd people having so much (multiples of 50k) in premium bonds. Outside of a short term home for cash, it must just be a small part of a multimillion pound investment portfolio biggrin.

True if you can afford to keep devaluing £100k a year by getting next to no returns on it.
Must be the new status symbol smile
