5Y swap rates aren't 0.5%. FD do a tracker at 1.79% over base, so I'm not sure what the argument is
As you well know 5yr swap rates have got bugger all to do with what he said. And yes you can say that FD have a low rate tracker but broadly an awful lot of people in this country are probably paying somewhere between 4 and 7%. If you want to have an in depth discussion of the difference between 5yr swap rates and the best tracker rates there start another thread.....
