Aldmore Bank have competitive savings rates at the moment. Deposits up to £85,000 are covered under the government protection scheme. There's little information on the web. Any PHers have any experience of them etc?

I don't know alot about them as a bank. They are the result of a buyout of a small private bank by a US investment house. Took them a little while to get up and running as a lender, but that was just after the credit crunch, so you'd expect that.
I've dealt with them on a couple of mortgages, where they were competent. They do specialise in the not quite prime market, means their rates arent the lowest, but their criteria are looser than others. They seem to be old school, talking to people weho can make decisions rather than phone monkeys who slavishly obey the computer. They're quite conservative.

Can't comment on their savings products.

If you are looking for a fixed rate savings account from a private bank look at Close brothers savings .

They are offering 4% over 18 months or 5% for a three year deposit .
