I've used a few of the switching sites and have similar results from each.
I currently spend roughly £1200 p.a. on a dual fuel standard tariff basis.
The sites reckon I can save up to £244 by switching.
When I drill down into their calcs I find that they over-estimate my current Kwh costs by 24% gas and 13% electricity. So any advertised savings are going to be wiped out by my much higher (actual) usage.
Has anyone switched and had any real world savings?

I would be interested to hear about peoples experiences too. Similar usage to the OP for duel fuel, similar savings quoted too.

Anyone got any advice please?

my vague post below rightly indicates utility costs aren't top of my agenda right now.

But,

2 bed semi, was with EDF paying about £50 a month direct debit. Hadn't changed in ages, no arrears.

Cold call from Scottish Power: best rates, Which recommended, fixed prices, get in now before the rise.

the spiel seemed to be backed up by price comparison sites. So I went for the switch. They had a legal person seperately, stating I was responsible for usage increases - fair enough.

1 month into new contract, they cauclate my DD has to increase to £95 per month. Am pretty sure my energy usage hasn't changed.

Seen reports of mis-selling now. Luckily I can cling to the warm glow caused byt my extra payments helping to subsidise the never-never land renewable energy market.

All in all, I would say:
- double check all unit rates you're being quoted, particularly how many units are cheap rate
- review your old bills for actual usage for at least 18 months, longer the better
- but if homework is done, there's bound to be some difference in rates you can exploit.

I stick with Grittish Bass. I reckon they're all as bad as each other, the 40,000,000 tariffs designed to confuse me will succeed and I'll be bum-raped wherever I go to the keep the Russian oligarchs in yachts and luxury penthouses.

What we need is a 'Gas Board' and no bloody Russians. Or nuclear of course.
