Government Grants loft and wall insulation
Discussion
With several energy utility companies, offering government grants on both loft and wall insulation, I have just had a site survey carried out to see if both the property needs loft insulation, and if the wall insulation can be carried out.
The loft needs further insulation of 30 x 200mm rolls, and after deduction of the grant, I need to pay 500.00. Wall insulation can be carried out, and again after deducting the grant, my costs will be 900.00.
Seems rather expensive even after deducting the grants, and whilst I can both purchase and install the loft insulation, can one purchase and install wall insulation, and are there any pitfalls in carrying the works oneself.

www.diy.com et al - plenty of deals on insulation. Okay you have to do it yourself, but the savings can be colossal.
I was going to start a thread asking about cheap loft insulation, looks like I've found what I need! Only £6 a roll, bargain. Will be topping up my existing over some bedrooms.

To the OP, I had my cavity walls done a few years back for about £150 IIRC. It was done via a British Gas deal. The prices you've been quoted are way OTT, unless you live in a mansion?

It was through British Gas that i went, my loft space that i have just measured is approx. 150 sq metres. I was told i needed 30 rolls of 200mm loft insulation, from the prices on offer at B&Q, cheaper to install oneself.http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detai...

If only i can find a cheaper price for the wall insulation.
I did my loft last year with stuff from B+Q, they were doing some silly deal like 3 for 1 and I used the 200mm rolls that are wrapped in foil so dead easy to lay and fit on top of my existing insulation. I cost me about £60 to do an 80s 3 bed detached. I had the walls done under the BG scheme the year before and it was just under £200 with subsidies and a £50 rebate from my council tax.
I must say, it has made a huge difference to the house - the boiler used to be on and off all night before and now it hardly comes on at all during the winter evenings.

B&Q have presently on offer three 3.3 sq. metre 200mm rolls for the price of One, being 3.00 for 3.http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detai...
