I need some tools.

I don't want to spend the earth on kit but I also want it to last or have a solid guarantee.
I would like a nice set of spanners and sockets, with all the usual accessories.
Have I read correctly on here that Halfrauds professional range isn't too bad and good guarantee?
I suppose I am after which brands to go for and which to avoid, can then do the searching myself for sets.

can't go wrong with halfords, mac or snap on. I use them all and to be honest if you are just part time spannering, halfords are darn good quality and excellent price. There 120 piece set is £99, which is a nice starter set. Depends on what you want it for really.

Can the price of the Halford's kit be justified over this Torq set from B and Q?
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/...
£200 for the above with halford's lifetime guarantee.

£90, says a guarantee but not sure on what that is.

I got this socket & spanner kit for work, very pleased with it.

They also do more general kits.

that the halfords PRO range is also guaranteed and will be replaced if it breaks
BUT you must produce the receipt
I've replaced Halfords stuff without any issue, and without any receipt! The guy I deal with told me, at the end of the day, it's their product, a receipt isn't needed to prove that.that the halfords PRO range is also guaranteed and will be replaced if it breaks

i don't think you will get the 150 piece set for £100, even in their sale.
I don't think I paid much over £100 for my 150 piece set, possibly £120. It's an excellent set covering most jobs, although I still sometimes resort to other toolboxes for more specialist jobs.I'm more into tinkering than serious car maintenance but 25 years experience tells me that there's no substitute to having the right tool for the job, and that trying to 'get by' is often more expensive combined with wasting vast amounts of time.
Another vote for the Halford Professional here - really nice to use, tough and any Halfords store will replace it if it breaks, no matter how old it is - I've only ever broken 1 socket, 1 hex drive bit and 1 breaker bar in 10 years of abusing my Halfords stuff.
Plus having the ability to just drop into any Halford store to get a replacement is well worth a premium over other brands...

never use halfords myself for this reason
have freinds run a local 'gearbox' franchise.
Spookily I have an email from them saying the 150pc set is £99. It isnt showing that price online so do you want me to send you the email OP?
I was going to get this set, but got a 211pc Crescent set from Costcos instead (about £70 I think) which also has a lifetime guarantee and seems good quality.
