Car Port - ready made or DIY using own (very basic!) design

Good morning all

We have a driveway next to our garage and I'm thinking about putting a car port up. My father suggested one which clamps to the garage and has no further support.

I love a bit of DIY both on the design stage and actually carrying out the work so has anyone made their own at all? Any photo's available? Our driveway isn't rectangle, it's a bit of a funny shape so it may be easier to make my own tailored one.

What material should I use on the roof? I don't like the idea of plastic as it'll stain over time but I guess it'd be quite neat if I cleaned regularly.
