Ok, i have had various ponds over the years, currently i have a 1500l fibreglass pond in the front garden - its pretty old now so i want a change.

I keep getting the urge to "do it properly" ie block built, bottom drain, custom liner etc. probably using a nexus filter of some sort.

The building of it is not a problem, its the cost of filtration. I expect the filter alone would be around £1k plus everything else.

Not too worried about having award winning koi, just a nice pond for some fish and my turtles to live in happily - staying clear is the main thing.

So. What have you got?

Holy crap dan!

Your dads pond is incredible! Whats the gallonage?

Love the idea of the filter house. The whole thing is seriously impressive! Some of those fish look very big (even allowing for the refraction of the windows).

Thanks. Well, it's thought to be about 30,000 gallons.

Actually doing some rough maths (5m radius and 2m deep) would confirm it's about 157 cubic metres, so 157,000 litres, or about 34,581 gallons. So probably not far off!

Some of the fish are huge, yes. Shame the heron keeps eating them!

Dan, that pond is brilliant. Not quite in the same vein as a Koi pond but here is a link to mine that I dug last year. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Looks fantastic. I love a natural pond. My ex girlfriend's parents own a big gatehouse to a large estate and they have quite a lot of the grounds. In there is an enormous natural pond, well more of a lake, with a huge island in the middle. Their dogs loved it. Unfortunately, when they moved in, the house and grounds were a complete wreck and the whole place needed rebuilding and the garden cutting right back and starting again as it was so overgrown, but impressive nonetheless! I never got to see it finished!

Help! Had a bit of a moment this morning. I turn my pump off during the winter because I don't like to circulate cold water during the winter months. Anyway, I lifted the pump up from the depths of my pond and hosed the muck off it and prepared it ready to switch on for the spring. As it was switched on I got a strong tingle from the water! Clearly it is shorting into the pond. I checked it wasn't just me so asked my wife to try - as one does - and she got a shock, like pins and needles too! So now I'm at a dead loss what to do. Not that the fish seem to have minded at all, I had visions of my koi floating to the top stunned or dead but they are all fine, even the new seasons tiddlers (yes I discovered three baby shubunkins)! But now I've got to figure out if it's the pump or the UV bulb. And frankly I don't know where to start. Anyone had this problem and got any ideas how to approach it? scratchchin
