Indeed, at least on paper, but there was still no excuse. However I did try and redeem myself with this post

Plasma TV.
+1

42'' Pioneer and shut the door. Brilliant.
Electric bill compensates for the cheap gas bill - all wasted though outside the winter 'quarter'.

Addition 1 (ClassicMercs) - a glass of whisky - warm from the inside outwards !!

Addition 2 (MrsMercs) - large dog on knee

Or a fan heater perhaps?
my dad said these cost a fortune to run?
A fan heater or any other kind of electrical heating is an expensive way to heat a room that you're spending much time in because electrical energy costs three times as much as mains gas energy.
In the morning if you leave the house quickly to get to work then a fan heater is appropriate heating for the bathroom and kitchen because it heats the air in the room, and makes the room comfortable, very quickly and would be in use for a very short time. In this case you could set the boiler timer to only come on in the evening.
You can also minimise your electricity costs by choosing the most efficient appliances, e.g. fridge freezers are available that run for just £13 a year, and backlit LCD TVs use much less than plasmas. Don't buy halogen lights and make sure everything except the fridge freezer is turned off when you're not there.
