Evening all, I have an oil burner type boiler and have just fitted a new radiator in an upstairs bedroom. I have bled all the radiators in the house and made sure the pressure gauge on the boiler is as it should be. When I turn ron either the hot water or heating now though the boiler will fire up for approx 30 seconds before going into lock out, I don't understand why it's doing this as we didn't touch the boiler, just the radiator upstairs! The boiler is a Worcester, not sure of the model, has anyone got any clue as to what's happened here?

By the sounds of it it's overheating. So either an airlock, or valves have been left shut, check all the radiators are open, and when it is firing, check the nearest rad for heat.

I've just checked the radiators and they are all open, and I'm sure there isn't any air in the system, the boiler doesn't stay on long enough for any of the radiators to get warm!

Is it a normal boiler as opposed to a combination boiler? If so check any pipework in the airing cupboard for bleed points and also bleed the pump, usually by undoing the silver screw in the middle slightly.

Havnt got an airing cupboard, the boiler just sits in the utility room by the kitchen and the oil comes in from the big tank outside! The last time time it locked out was because the oil had run out but I've double checked and this isn't the case this time!

Is it a burner lockout? A red light will illuminate on the burner itself,or is it a boiler lockout? which will push out a manually resettable overheat stat in the upper area of the boiler.

From what you have said it sounds like a burner lock out.

Is the circulation pump actually running? I had something similar happen after the heating engineer had fiddled with something or other. The (gas) boiler fired up then stopped with a hiss from the safety valve. Found out the three position switch on the pump had been nudged so that it was actually between positions and so not running. Poor design but well-known make irked

If its a burner lockout then your best getting an oftec guy to look at it as its fuel or ignition related, rather than being something straightforward like an overheat due to low pressure.

I thought I would end up having to get an engineer in, I just don't understand why it happens after fitting a new radiator, I'm having a bad week this week and now I'm cold and grumpy! Nevermind, I'm sure it could be worse! Thanks for all your responses chaps

There are lots of airvents on the top of the Heatslaves. Sounds like it's airlocked to me.
