Just been down to my freezer to get some meat out that I put in yesterday, I was expecting it to be frozen solid liek it usually is. Whilst it is frozen it is not as frozen as normal.

I then checked the fridge part and it is chilled but not quite as chilled as normal.

The fridge normally makes a noise that is constant - Inote that it is a lot quiter now and there is more of a noise that is ryhtmic - i.e every couple of seconds.

Is it on the way out? Easily fixable? I don't wnat to spend much as it must be near on 7 years old and is probably going to have to be repalced soon anyway.

Is the compressor running all the time? If so then it's trying to make the appliance cooler but not managing it. This is normally due to an escape of gas (slow leak).

My experience is that since we have been using the eco friendly refrigerant, it is not as good as the older withdrawn gases and appliances do not seem to last as long.

If this is case, it may cost you near to the cost of a new one to have the system vacuumed down, sealed and re-gassed. At least with a new one you get a peace of mind guarantee.. refrigeration appliances don't seem to last like they used to!

Yes I think I will just go for a new one.

We actually have a fridge freezer combo and a small freezer on its own..

So our freezer requirements are much more than our fridge requirements.

Most combo fridge freezers have a bigger or equal frige in comparison to the freezer.

What I want is to get 1 machine to replace both - so a fridge freezer with a bigger freezer. Anyone know of one?

Not looking to spend mega bucks though - upto £300 max.

Is Comet pretty much the only palce you can walk into these days to have a look?
