Sensible plastering prices
Discussion
How much should one be paying for plastering in the SW london/surrey area? We need to get the ceilings skimmed in a 2 bed flat and have some patching done on a couple of walls, and have had quotes that i can't see as anything other than ridiculous.
People seem to be saying that it'll take 2 days to do, and we're getting quotes in the £1000-1200 region.
Is that really sensible?

We had a 30' x 13' lounge done incl ceiling. Had a protusion from one of the long walls - think 2 rooms knocked into 1. Patio door recess and 4 window reccesses also done. All up cost was £600 incl materials. Took 3 days.
We're in Warwickshire, but I don't think it warrants 3x the cost for 2days work.

PVA and multi-finish does not cost much. Four figures is a lot of labour cost for 2 days work! Find some Poles to do it.
Yeah get some cheap labour, and after that, come back for recommendations on who can put it right...
Difficult to speak for another trade but the spread I use would probably want £700 give or take for that, depending how you pay etc. if you wish I'll pm his number, you'll have to ask if he'll go to surrey.
I've just had a water damaged ceiling replaced in my works office.
Remove all damaged plasterboard.
Supply and fit five new sheets of plaster board.
Plaster skim coat and final polish with steel float.
Disconnect and re-connect four fluorescent light fittings.
Clear up and remove from site all waste.
£430.00
Two men, started at 8.30am left at 2.15pm.

So it deffo sounds like the quotes i had were aimed at a mug then...
Luckily we've now had one for 500 and one for 650, so I think we're getting there. One more quote to come then we have to pick one.
Oh, and just for the benefit of those grumbling about "You get what you pay for", one of the quotes for £1k included sanding down the existing ceiling first.
...The 1969 vintage artex ceiling.
Unnecessary (the ceiling is only slightly textured), and deadly. Stay away from my ceiling please you muppet.

I'm going to need a load of plastering doing soon, can I ask who you used? We're in Warwickshire, but I don't think it warrants 3x the cost for 2days work.
I've found a fantastic plasterer chap in the Kingston Surrey area. £125/ day plus materials. Works like a trooper, is an absolute perfectionist and a top lad to boot.
A 4x5m room walls, ceiling etc took him 2 days.So the whole lot cost about £300. He's so honest he even gives the receipt from Jewsons for the materials with his trade prices on
There's more imperfections from me applying paint with a roller afterwards than I've ever found in his work.
If you want to use him send me a PM with your mobi number and I'll get him to give you a call.

I got bored of the local plasterer being too busy to do my work so I learnt to do it myself.
I really is very very easy.
yeh! I tried that and was so impressed with my handy work I showed it to my plasterer. I didn't tell him I'd spent 3 hours sanding the bloody thing though and 2 days vacuuming the dust. Oh, and that my arm ached for two weeks afterwards. That was just for 3m of wall. I'd hate to do a ceiling.I really is very very easy.
In the words of the great Clint Eastwood " A mans gotta know his limitations" And plastering for me is one of them.

I rigged up a hover attachment to the sander so it kept the duct down - only needed a little bit of sanding though
