New house build - Luxembourg
Discussion
Thanks!
Met with the manufacturers of the stairway banisters yesterday. Decided against having them, although they were very nice, stainless steel handrails.

Construction company will give me a credit note for their cost against the other extras already foreseen, so at least it's not something I'd get charged more for as we've changed sooo much so far.
Appointment with the interior door manufacturers this morning. These are made very differently to the UK, i.e. the door frames click together and fit the door openings, and the door construction's different too.

This is the first supplier we'll be able to speak English to since we started the project as the contact there speaks German or English, not French. That'll be a pleasant change for us.

In related news, we had an offer made on our existing house yesterday which we've accepted and a "compromis" has been signed.
The purchasers have 3 weeks to finalise their mortgage after which they have a 10% penalty to pay if they back out. Effectively, the house is sold - after 2 weeks on the market - and we got a very good price for it too. We're very happy and relieved, to say the least.
Popped by the site today to find a massive delivery of foam insulation stacked around the house. It can't all be for ours ...: there's loads of the stuff!
My daughter wanted to do some "weight lifting"
We're going out for a celebratory dinner tonight!

Haha!
Strangely, no, I didn't. I suspect that'll be a missed opportunity now, too.
I'm with you, would not be tempted by that one, I was surprised by the tape & jointing method on how tidy it was compared to plastering.Strangely, no, I didn't. I suspect that'll be a missed opportunity now, too.
good to see things have picked up, weather makes all the difference eh

Where abouts are you building? I'm just out of the city on Rue de Arlon heading towards Strassen.
Hey, another Bourg resident! This is in Junglinster, behind the new commune building.
pvapour: Fingers crossed, yes! Sun's shining again today, hit 20c yexterday, which was odd as we had snow flurries on Thu. WTF?

Had a nose on site today. Next door has been plastered inside and I had a look in our shell to find this sat in the kitchen, and very long hoses running up 2 flights of stairs.....
Plastering is about to begin!
Stand back, spray and float!
Fnarr.
God, imagine the havoc you could cause with one of those ..... Plastering is about to begin!
Stand back, spray and float!
Fnarr.
" I wonder what this lever does ......" followed by a panicky few minutes trying to turn it off but by then your mummified in plaster and entombed in a grey sloppy room with no exits.
Plastering's underway!
(I didn't touch the machine, honest officer... )
Hmmm.... not quite sure what's happening here. Still in need of boxing in and proper backboxes for these connections. That's for double sockets, 2 x sat coax, 1 x cable tv coax, 2 x Cat7:
Laundry room/office area foam insulation to the exterior wall has been turned a strange shade of pink, presumably a sealant ahead of plastering:
I had a nose at the house at the other end of the row of 4. They've had their underfloor heating installed and it's all screeded in. I'm pleased I chose to hide the UF control panels away from plain view - this one's in the hallway from the garage to the house:

So, this is how the shell looked when we first went to view in August 2012:
Here it is last night, edging strips going on in readiness for the outside to be rendered:
The sparky seemed a bit surprised we didn't want a light outside the garage. He'd overlooked the streetlight was right there.
It's been a plaster-tastic time inside the last few days:
Our bedroom, from the rear of the house looking to the front, en suite's on the right...
Same room, other direction...
1st floor hallway from our room towards guest room (left) and office/laundry rooms (ahead)
Very pleased with the plastering so far, with very few trowel marks and a good, flat finish.

Plasterers are blasting through this work!
We might just be in before August site shutdown!....he says, still crossing fingers AND toes.
Guest room's done:
Rooms above garage (still to be divided into 2) are done:
I'm not sure when they're supposed to be sticking the plasterboard up, though? I guess the ventilation for the air/heat exchanger's needed first, hence the "chimney" opening:
The stairwell from 1st to ground floor's also plastered.

Very nice. I simply can't afford to buy somewhere in the city. Used or rent a similar place to yours in Dommeldange, up by the Hilton hotel before we moved oop north. Will be nice being closer to the city, although I'll likely become a "bus wker" as it's more convenient.
Agree on the buses, so efficient and convenient. House prices are bloody ridiculous here though. I really like your build, especially jealous of the underfloor heating, I just have rads which work fine, it's just the stone floors that are bloody cold when doing the midnight un to the bathroom.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
