Hi, looking for some advice really as to what i should expect to pay to have my driveway re tarmacked. It currently has an old Tarmac surface which has broken up so would need this removed, a new under layer compacted and then resurfaced along with a drainage grill in front of the garage to connect with an existing drain. Area is a total of 66sq meters, one area 7m x 6m and another 8m x 3m. I've had one quote which nearly made me fall off my chair as the chap who quoted said it would only be 2 days work... Any ideas would be helpful.

I had my drive done recently in block paving (60ish Sq Mtr), asked the question about Tarmac and he quoted 50ish Sq Mtr - not a massive difference.

Assuming tarmac doesn't magically shrink your drive, I assume he is talking £ per sqm.

I recently had about 70m2 priced up with the following spec in brief

- remove existing asphalt to concrete sub base level
- prep and make good concrete base where required
- edging stones on all edges on mortar base
- lay 2 courses of tarmac
- finish and seal

All in about 5k and about 5 days I think. Note that the grade and thickness will swing costs quite a lot

Whoops, yep, per sq mtr.
Largest variation I had was on the size of my drive, most of the firms had the same pitch & price per sq mtr........my drive is dead straight, 3 mtrs wide and 50.1 mtrs long. Quotes varied between 150 sq mtrs right up to 250 sq mtrs - barking mad!

If costs are an issue, you can reduce them by doing some of the non-tech stuff yourself, like digging up the old one and removing the waste.
