Art on your walls...
Discussion
Has anyone sold anything recently? I’m considering selling a piece of art but eBay would take a £800 cut by the look of it - for not doing much work. Has anyone seen if any of the larger auction houses have a contemporary art auction coming up for artists that aren’t in the Warhol category?

I trawl charity shops when I have the chance as it's the best place to find art (rare art) at giveaway money. Yes, today they check stuff. But they miss a hell of a lot, and if you know what to look for there are some bargains to be had.
What made me choose the post above was I spotted these with my wife while touring Cornwall back in October. They were in Tintagel. Didn't buy, too big, and not cheap. The detail was superb, but not my thing really.
This has to be one of my favourite and 'lucky' finds about 10 yrs ago. I walked into this charity shop and instantly spot this beauty of an oil painting (it's 'large' and original - see it next to the deck chairs the day I got it home and plonked it next to them in our garden).
So big, it immediately struck you when walking in, hanging high on the back wall so I strode quickly to where it hung, two people were staring up at it. Luckily both were short in stature (the guy obviously wanted it) whereas tall me was able to politely say 'excuse me' reach up and unhook it. He looked at me dismayed and asked 'Are you going to buy that? Do you know what it is?'
I replied 'Yes, and Yes.'
He was ex RAF and knew it was 'Lady Luck'. Lady luck was with me that day. It's a very famous B-17 that crashed in the UK during WW2 Sept 1943 and it's pilot got the crew to bail out while he waited to the last before doing also bailing out, thus averting disaster for a small town called New Alresford in Hampshire. I knew all this, and it was what I call 'fate', right time, right place. I walked up the High Street with it under my arm. I've had some silly offers but it's staying put. I love it. I also got it for absolutely silly money!

Question for the painters ... where would be a good source for 6ft x 3ft (180cm x 90cm) stretched canvases? Mainly driven by price, to be honest.
I do a fair few 4ft x 3ft and you can get them from loads of places for not too much money, but 6ft x 3ft doesn't seem to be a standard size, or at least they don't appear to be readily-available. I'm finding custom places will do them for about £200 delivered.
eg primed 9oz cotton from here with 30dd quid delivery .. https://readymadecanvas.com/index.php/handmade-str...
TIA

These are nasty. They're neither onamental or diverting. I let that Vectra go without comment, but these are bad.
I like them, think they are pretty cool.Judas has had a Chris Achilleos poster of Elric for over 38 years. It has been kept safe in an old school clip frame through countless student house moves, and a few grown up ones.
We finally figured out the other week where we could hang it. Off to our framers, he had a beautiful hand made frame in the back going spare that we spotted. Few days later, it is framed and pride of place in the library (the third reception room in our house that we have turned into a daft but wonderful room).
The main reason we have put it in here is that we have a set of David Roberts lithographic prints from when he wandered round the middle east (5 quid each on ebay was a bit of a bargain!). The Elric picture has the same feel with the faded background and all the focus on the main characters in the picture.
It goes so well it feels like it has always been there. We are pretty chuffed with the result.

I really want to sit in that room after a big winter dinner, drink whiskey, and talk nonsense! What an excellent space to have.We finally figured out the other week where we could hang it. Bearing in mind art is very subjective we have just hung an almost accidental tryptich of portraits. The Cages poster is one graphic novel nerds would probably recognise from the 90s by Dave McKean, everyone knows who Sean is, but few would recognise (let alone like) the ugly man on the left. But somehow they all work in the space. I think of it as a rose and two thorns.
Absolute pig of a job to hang over the stairs though.
Lee Ellis did Ugly and Daniel Mernagh did Sean
