We put tile in our kitchen in the US when we renovated the house. Our logic was, "we have no money, tile is cheap". It came out looking ok, and wasn't too horrible to use on a day to day basis, but for all the reasons already mentioned, I won't be doing it again.

I sold that house in November (finally!), and the tile still looks good, 10 years after we put it in. The grout hasn't broken down or stained like we thought it might. Dark grout helps a lot there.
That does look good.

Yes, SWMBO decided we wanted a tiled worktop in about 86 so I did as I was told despite pointing out many of the comments others have mentioned. It lasted 6 months before she told me MY idea of a tiled worktop was so outdated. So we then reverted to a laminate top. Had three new houses since then and each one we've bought I ask her if she'd like a tiled worktop and each time she tells me my ideas are so passe.............

I'm in quite a fortunate position that the missus has now come to terms with the fact she doesn't particuarly care as long as its done quickly and its kept clean. She's not one seeing the vision.

I've just remembered my cousin in NY has a tiled worktop but he's a messy fker and it looks a right state from memory.

Friend just did his when fitting new kitchen. His wife has a catering business, the hygiene people would not sign it off. Which I guess reinforces people saying the grout is a dirt trap...

To be honest that is what is putting me off the most. The selling the property is a second worry I guess. My reasoning was worst case I'll just buy a new work top when it comes to selling time because a few hundred in the scheme of things when you're talking hundreds of thousands is nothing.

I guess I'm just after watching something different but affordable. I'm not looking for footballer's WAG type decoration or at the opposite end everything in cream and white (homes under the hammer) but something that looks a little different.

Unless, as stated earlier, it is epoxy grout...
