Just moved into a property that has a new heating/hot water system. Think it's a combi boiler but also has a pressurised hot water tank to gave hot water at mains pressure apparently? Each radiator has an individual thermostat (with numbers 1 -7) but there is no central thermostat so one of these nest/hive etc things would probably be a good solution.

Looking at the honeywell system (which seems to be the only one you can have different zones) it is £600. Can the hive or nest stats have multi zones added or do you need multiple stats to achieve this?

I can't complain, I can set the schedule using mobile app or web browser, I can turn it on and off using my phone and it alerts me when I leave the house if I've left it on and likewise when I'm coming home, asking me if I want to turn it on and telling me the temperature.

It's probably not got the bells and whistles of others available but it does everything we need it to do so we've been more than happy.

I just want to change this;

for this;

I don't have any real need because I never touch the thermostat - it's just so pretty.
When Hive 2 came out, BG ran an upgrade program for £99, which we decided to go for.

It's pretty worthwhile too - there are two buttons on the top for hot water and heat boost.

They're extending their range a little too - my Hive plugs have just arrived smile

I've been following this thread for some time - new boiler scheduled soon so I need a new thermostat.

Hive is the 'prettiest' but I currently favour the tado because of the geofencing feature. Are there any other that do this?

I understand Hive prompts you to switch on/off according to location but doesn't do it automatically. Is this correct? Wife isn't a fan of technology so needs to be fit and forget as much as possible.

Small 3 bed detached, poor insulation, 100+ years old, combi only blah de blah de blah, wife, 2 kids always in an out of house, very little routine. Will soon have some electric under floor heating but not too fussed if this can't be included.

Budget is £200 ish. Don't really want to pay much more which I think rules out the clever zoning stuff now available. Small house so I understand that it won't really be worth it.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

I'm very happy with my tado.

I've also just purchased a loop to monitor my gas and electricity usage. £50 from Amazon and works really well.

I've not found a solution which does the geofencing as well. As we have a pretty irregular schedule, it saves us a lot of money - simply the heating isn't on when I'm not here. I don't have to remember to do anything, it just does it.

If you were always in the house, then perhaps it would be less valuable (e.g. my MiL/FiL - theres always someone in, and he gets cold (Arthritis) so they have the heating on pretty solidly. There a simple room portable wireless stat would probably be more relevant (I keep thinking about installing one for them).

You can "add" basic geofencing to nest with IFTTT etc, but its not built in, and could break if IFTTT goes down etc. Hence I prefer tado. Although the nest is super nice.

Oh, one more thing, I've replicated the NEST boiler shutdown protocol - if our NEST fire alarms go off, it will send an IFTTT notification to TADO to shut down, and turn all the Hue lights deep red and flashing.

Geofencing in IFTTT is mostly broken on iphone and Android. Have a google.

I use it to turn off my electric radiator in my office (I don't have tado running most of the time as I live alone), it triggers about 1 in 4 times I leave the house.

TADO is much more reliable.

Thanks - sounds like the TADO it is. We are very irregular with our comings and goings so I think it is worth it to us. And we definitely would like to fit and forget as much as possible.

Does anyone know any cheaper ways to buy it? I am a tight git. I see quidco offer 8% and I've just been emailed a voucher for a further 20EUR. Any tips? Do they periodically do any offers better than this?

Wish and you will receive - £50 off TADO today only at Screwfix.

I was tempted until I read the reviews of the iOS APP on the APP store.

I noticed the 2nd Gen Nest is £133 on Screwfix too.

New app is working well here. Set and forget. Boost once in a while, but not often.

New app works fine if you have a single heating zone. I put in underfloor heating in the kitchen last year, which runs on its own thermostat and so I bought the extension kit and wireless thermostat from Tado. At the moment all it will do is the geo-fencing bit – i.e. you can’t alter the programme to say what times it needs to come on / turn off or even set the temperature (default is 20 degrees).

Tado tell me that it will work properly ‘soon’

Tado is about to go on today's deal on Amazon, £147.99.

I want one for my next house, but I've not exchanged contracts yet let along got a completion date. Also it doesn't have any heating to control lol

If I'm not mistaken todays Android update has brought schedule heating for multiple zones. I only have one zone so can't confirm, but it's what the app update states.

Still really happy with Tado hence I've paid for a second year (renting). Looking forward to when they release the TRV's.

Thanks - doesn't seem to have made it's way to IOS yet - Tado told me on Tuesday that it was about a week away, so hopefully won't be too long

Multi-zone heating seems to be fully supported now - excellent smile

I completely forgot that I have a 12th NeoStat for the 2 upstairs bedrooms with radiators. It's a great system that just works, especially when I turned on the 24 hour mode smile

Recommendations please..

5 bed house with two CH zones on a conventional timer plus three UFH.

The CH zones have a single Honeywell wireless thermostat, the UFH have a wireless stat+timer each.

Ideally I'd like room based temperature control for the CH zones - the UFH seems to work well as its a large open downstairs area - but the bedrooms are variously occupied and I'd like something more effective than the wireless stat can do - plus I can't find anywhere to put the damned thing hehe
Even better if it was all wireless.
