I've also just purchased a loop to monitor my gas and electricity usage. £50 from Amazon and works really well.
Interested. Got any more info or a link?
Sorry missed this. Good news is it now available on a free trial! https://www.your-loop.com/product/dual-fuel/lifeti...
Brilliant, ta. Signed up for the trial.

Are the two sensors battery operated then? I suppose I'll know in a few days....

Shame they have no Solar integration with this year frown

Npower came up as the cheapest for our energy at the new house so I moved over to them - as a bonus they are doing the 3rd Gen Nest at £70 off RRP - so £129. Fitting is extra, but I plan to have a go myself.

It turned up a day after ordering it - I plan to fit it this weekend. Fingers crossed....

Mine arrived yesterday, really easy to set up. The sensors are battery powered and there is a dongle that connects to your hub powered by either USB or a supplied charger.

Very impressed!

Im debating about purchasing my Tado next month as my rental comes to a end. Thing is they want £147 for me to purchase the unit! which is now nearly 1 yr old so I may as well wait for a deal like amazon or screwfix have had or maybe carry on renting incase they bring a V3 out.

I don't think there will be a V3 in the short term, I believe they are focusing on the TRVs and the HomeKit enabled bridge.

Does anyone here have experience of OpenTherm boiler control with a wifi thermostat?

I've had a couple of quotes to upgrade my central heating which is going to include Evohome and had an interesting conversation with one heating guy who briefly explained the benefits of using OpenTherm, but I can't say I've heard much about it until he mentioned it. It made sense and seems like a good way to go, as Honeywell have a wireless OpenTherm Bridge which will do the job, but I'd be interested in some other opinions.

Wonder if I should give this a go... https://www.npmjs.com/package/bg-hive-api
That one didnt work for me (with NodeRed) so .....

If you are doing Home Automation with MQTT - give my little app a go http://britishgashive.freeforums.org/heating-boost...

At the moment this is read-values-only but I will be updating it to use the new API soon.
Hi, I've had a look into this but am a little confused about certain things, like how to get the MQTT ports/username/passwords? I'd assume the MQTT host is simply the address of the Hive Hub that connects to the ethernet switch. There's no clues as to the other information...

So the Nest app updated and it is now 'geofencing' I'm not sure it is working yet but it says it will take a while to learn (as ever with Nest!)

Hoping this will save a little more.

Seems to work for us and easy to check with the app - you now need to set up a nest account for each family member so it works with every phone.

I had just bought the quickcontrol app for £2.99 which added geofencing to nest about 3 days before nest added it, and the quickcontrol was a bit hit and miss.

The nest claims to use geofencing for away assist, so not sure exactly how it works but suspect it also monitors the sensor at the same time before deciding what to do.

Hi - If you want to use bg-hive-api the developer has been trying out a few tweaks to get it working on the latest NodeRed. You need to install the latest versions on your NodeRed server:
npm install https://github.com/aklambeth/bg-hive-api#v1.0.4
npm install https://github.com/aklambeth/node-red-contrib-hive#v0.1.1

(do you know how to use npm?)

With my code, you need also to install an MQTT server which manages messages between apps. If you are looking into full Home Automation then it is worthwhile to look at MQTT and get an understanding.
Let me know if you need help.

I had a tado v1 and v2 (I had the extension kit as well) and at the end of the rental I bought a Hive v2 as it looked nicer and was much easier to use than the Tado. It was also cheaper.

Not regretted it but the only thing I missed was the automatic geolocation switch off - something that I have replaced with my own code but I am sure Hive will have it soon.

If you have your energy through npower you can still order a nest gen3 for £129. They are also one of the cheapest supplier at the moment, so if you switch you can order one as soon as your new account number is emailed to you. That's what I did. They were happy to send out the nest even though it was weeks until the switch.

Ah did wonder if there was more than just connecting your API straight to Hive laugh

Actually ended using the bg-hive-api - probably more basic but fine for what I need it for for now. Just started with nodejs/npm so was straightforward to set up and got it running on my Raspberry Pi

How do you check/test through the app? I can't see anything. We both have accounts on our phones.

Just open the app - it will say Home or Away. So if you are both away from the house it should have kicked into Away. If it has failed you can always manually set it here.

Ah yes, that's what I have been looking at. Not working yet, but we will see.

No geo-whatever in EvoHome yet? Seems like something that should be included. I'd love, once me and my partners' phones disconnect from the wireless network, for the whole heating system to shut down. Can't be that hard, surely?

On a side note, anyone else hate the new EvoHome app for Android? They've needlessly changed how you adjust the temperature. Horrible.

Make sure your location option is turned on in the settings menu (I assume you are using an iphone? Go into settings then find the nest app) - location option to always.
