Best Wifi enabled thermostat

Leithen, one last question, is it possible to set a zone to come on for a time period irrespective of temperature? I'd like our towel rails to come on for say an hour in the morning.
Good question - we do this for a shower room used in the morning and bathroom in the evening for the kids bath time. There may be a more sophisticated way of setting it up, but we simply set the zone temp to be high enough to guarantee the TRV stays open for the time required. In our house (Scotland Brrrrrr) that means a setting 22 Degrees C is enough to make sure that the rails are on, towels are warm and rooms are warm. Then you just have to set the time correctly to allow the towels to warm up before you need them. We leave the rails on for more than an hour though, to make sure they dry straight away.
I've found their email support to be really good, usually same day response and failing that definitely first thing the following day.
I've just upgraded from the V1 to the new smart thermostat but rather frustratingly they didn't have instructions to wire up the new one for my system yet. Less than 12 hours later they'd put the instructions together and had them online for me.

Odd behavour from Tado this morning - Heating locked in on, TADO thinking it was off, house at 22.5" vs a setpoint of 19c!
Mine has done this at least once, as far as I can tell it's the App that's wrong, but you may know different based on the temp in the house. I think my issue may be coupled with the box forgetting about the room temp gauge and using the internal one which is insulated from the room temp as it's in a cupboard. System is very unresponsive to change in temperatures, coming on only when it's got very cool and going off when it's up at sauna-like temperatures.I've not done too much with it as I'm waiting for V2 to arrive anyway.
Instaled a Salus iT500 and iT300 (2 heating zones) a few weeks ago. Seems to work just fine. Only issue is a lack of a Windows phone app for the Mrs, oh well she can use the iPad, Internet or hall control to adjust it anyway :-)
I'm hoping to save a fair bit on my already cheap heating bills (18 month old large 4 bedder, £86 pcm for gas and leccy so very good right now). I keep the house at 18 min, 19-20 in the morning/evening btw.

If you contact support they can turn up the polling speed.I've not done too much with it as I'm waiting for V2 to arrive anyway.
However my app knew that the temp was high (was showing 22.5c) but was showing heating as off, when the boiler was running (and firing) - meaning Tado must have forgotton to send an "off" notification, but had told the app it had.
A complete system reboot solved for it for now, not reocurred yet. Support couldn't find anything untoward.
We're going for the Honeywell voice activated thermostat in our new build. It's not quite as sexy as the Nest, but as we can get it from a merchant at trade (my missus is in the building game) it's significantly cheaper.

I reckon we've saving 25% on our gas bill. I can't put it all down to the tado as we've had new windows and doors this year (replacing a wooden single glazed front door and old aluminium double glazing units).
We also only had a timer on the boiler with no thermostat.
However it is nice to come home and have the house warm and know that the house hasn't been heated up in our absence.

So are people getting real benefit from these WiFi units or is it more a case of a technology looking for a peoblem?
I love my gadgets but I can't help feeling that a WiFi enabled thermostat may by slightly OTT.
I all depends on how rambling your mansion is and how many radiators you have IMO. We have a medium sized five bedroom farmhouse, that has been extended multiple times over the last 300 years. 18 Radiators/Towel Rails mean that a centrally controlled wireless system that allows almost all the rooms to be switched on and off a different times, clearly is a huge advantage.I love my gadgets but I can't help feeling that a WiFi enabled thermostat may by slightly OTT.

But surely any good designed zoned system will do that, wireless or not? Or am I missing something?
Quite hard to physically zone every room in a house on an existing system. So wireless trvs/room stats added to a controller that allows complex scheduling is a huge step forward.Leithen said:

Good point. I was thinking from a new build perspective, had not really thought about using it to upgrade an existing system.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
