It's very, very feeble as grow rooms go.

I was surprised the realtor took so many pictures of it.

Anyone who speaks Estate Agent able to tell me what a lateral house is?

My first thought was a bungalow, but it clearly isn't. Wonder if they're using it as a euphemism for sprawling?

It's laid out across the plot laterally as opposed to front to back.

So it has a garden behind, rather than to the side - like almost every other house in the country?

I think it refers to a house that has a large 'footprint' with the square footage spread largely or entirely over a couple of floors, as opposed to a town house which has a much smaller footprint but may have the same interior space spread over 5 or 6 floors. I think!

No, the long axis of the house runs side to side on the plot.

Ah ha, it's a foreign language I tell you.

Incidentally what would normal house be? A vertical house?

That still describes virtually every new home on an estate these days. I think easytiger is closest. Googling 'lateral house' brings up a couple of press articles from 2013/14 espousing the virtues of flats with big floor plans; it's not a very accurate term to describe any building with more than one storey, anyway.

Lateral usually refers to flat conversions across a single floor (either into the adjoining terraced house or in a block), because foreigners don't like stairs. Maybe whoever wrote the spiel just got happy with the buzzwords.
