This caught my eye as something to remodel, like it as is, but remodelled it could be really spectacular. Got a great location there.

The one being advertised next to that Belsize Park gaff is funny too: "the intention is that the street can be inhabited as an external room". laugh If you want external space there's a lot more of that in the country, and it's a bit cheaper too.

What's most astonishing is that an architect would hold their hands up & put their name to that.

When I read guff like that I'm always reminded of the Harry Enfield sketch where he plays an 'antiques dealer' in London selling complete tat for thousands of pounds to the gullible customers coming in.

When I was looking to buy 3 years ago the Modern House usually has stuff I really like, but all about 20% over-priced. That Belsize Park one is quite unusual (I think) in that it looks like a massive work in progress.

For what it's worth, Hampstead and Belsize Park have been soft for the last 12 months (down 5-10% I'd say), can't see it getting any better in the next 12 months...

I'm genuinely amused by who buys this st.

This sentence is simply brilliant

"The large window opens, creating a seat onto the street so that the inhabitants can place a table on the street and use it as an external room where they can entertain and have dinner parties."

Come around my £1.35m house and we can have dinner like a tramp. Awesome.

"Oh do come round for dinner at the £1.35m house we've just bought. I'm afraid we're a bit pushed for space though so you and Jemima are sitting in the street (I've cleared up the dog's mess)." rofl

Apologies if we've had this before but we drove through Painswick yesterday and it looks a lovely area.
We thought we'd check out some of the local properties for sale, just for interest really.

Are people really this gullible?

Looks like a 1970's Soviet Gulag boiler room.

Love that! Seems quite reasonably priced considering the size and the area...?

I'm in the same valley as Painswick, a lovely part of the world, does have a whiff of God's Waiting Room about it though.

Lot's of Skoda Yeti's around here if you know what I mean.

Not on the market this is the best house in the valley by some margin, near perfect to my eyes......

I'm in the same neck of the woods myself. That is a very nice house.

Now my reaction to that would be how did they ever get planning to build that. It looks like someone has plonked a nice cottage in to a stone clad warehouse. Best place to be is inside looking out so you can't see it!

The owner can take it or leave it - keeps the chavs away.

No visible neighbours and a clear distinction between the cottage and the extension.

Notwithstanding this often used piece of policy guidance.....

PLANNING POLICY STATEMENT 7 | National Planning Policies 11

11. Very occasionally the exceptional quality and innovative nature of the design of a proposed, isolated new house may provide this special justification for granting planning permission. Such a design should be truly outstanding and ground-breaking, for example,in its use of materials, methods of construction or its contribution to protecting and enhancing the environment, so helping to raise standards of design more generally in rural areas. The value of such a building will be found in its reflection of the highest standards in contemporary architecture, the significant enhancement of its immediate setting and its sensitivity to the defining characteristics of the local area.
