How often do you need to re thatch a house like that and the next obvious question, how do you prevent a fire destroying the place. Would an ember from a garden fire set the place alight?
Every 25-30yrs but ongoing maintenance every 7 or so (ridges etc). You can't really set fire to thatch from the outside, imagine trying to light a (old style "proper") telephone directory with a matchgo out as its too tightly packed. Thatch fires come from the inside. Superheated gases from multifuel burners that creep through cracked chimney liners etc. I can't imagine on that sort of maintenance has been scrimped on in this sort of house. You'd be popular with the local thatchers as I reckon a rethatch of all of it would a quarter of a mill plus.

Slape Manor & estate, Dorset, £7m - http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...
Includes Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's original River Cottage from the TV series that he rented for the first 3 series.
That's lovely but you're almost buying a business not just a house. My favourite part of the world too. I suppose a bit closer to the sea might be nice.Includes Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's original River Cottage from the TV series that he rented for the first 3 series.
Lottery win stuff for me but I'd need to buy a ticket!

Small, expensive, but perfectly formed. I love the design on this one.

Now that is lovely. If I had to live in London, I could just about manage there. Nice find.http://www.themodernhouse.com/sales-list/5796_morn...
When they start prosecuting people for crimes against architecture and interior design then these people are going to be summarily executed. Another attempt to blend old house with modern car showroom, and the interiors should carry a health warning.

Moving back to something I would buy with the £1m Euromillions Raffle prize, this is up locally. It's been on this thread before, a little while ago, and it either didn't sell, fell through, or whatever.
Regardless, I want it, £1m isn't a bargain, but it certainly isn't bad value...

It's a no from me. Cookie-cutter Fifty Shades Of Greige interior design that has been seen without variation or innovation in every prime/super-prime London property for a decade now. Every surface or item is new, just the way that the Russians/Chinese/whoever's like it, the better to display their wealth. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

One of the nicest places I have seen on this thread, beaten only by those positioned at the water's edge in the south of France! Bloody lovely that is (notwithstanding some of the decorations). Thanks for that!
I'm a bit behind with what's been posted on here of late and this isn't for sale but you can rent it as a holiday home, sorry if it's been posted before.

The bare ply finishes in the basement will look utterly st in about 8 minutes. Bloody awful stuff but hipster architects seems to love it.
