I'm sure this will be a fun challenge for the DIYers of PH.

Quite a few years back I bought Mrs Puggit an ostrich egg in South Africa with a few holes in it. The idea is to place a lamp inside and have a nice talking point. There is a 4cm diameter hole in the egg to allow a light to be put inside it.

I'm struggling to find a suitable fixture to place inside the egg. Ideally quite low sitting, with an on/off switch and cable to a wall socket.

Thanks!

Bump! hehe

I still haven't got around to this, but started re-researching.

So, how am I going to mount a 4cm hole with a cable in to it? I'm thinking some kind of small rubber cone. Any ideas?

Can you get some kind of decorative stone/rock with a flat bottom, drill (very carefully!) a hole through the side to 1/2 way and then another hole from the top to 1/2 way so the holes meet in the middle. If you countersink the hole in the top, you could recess the egg into it and secure it with clear epoxy or something (although dunno what that would do to the egg!) You can then run the flex through that to some LED's inside the egg.

Some ideas : I wondered if you could find a ceramic cone similar to this. Not sure if you could drill a hole at the bottom though. If you had a local pottery school near you they could probably make you one for very little ?

Alternatively, you could look for cream/pastry horn moulds.....or maybe a brass/copper funnel turned upside down ?

We have one but are in the midst of moving this weekend so its packed away. Ours has some spring clipped bayonet bulb holder in it similar to this

The base is some wooden carved jobbie.
