I've 5 in the garage of varying sizes, currently only 2 and half work, is there a newer/better/cheaper solution to replace them? I've 1 tube that needs replacing, 1 that's flashing and 1 that has a brand new tube in but refuses to work so i presume the starter bit is knackered.

I had one small 4’ tube in mine. I removed it and fitted 3x double 6’ tubes. Loads brighter and they don’t flicker. I’d go with 5x new fittings, make sure they’re double and go for as long as you can.

This is on my list of things to do too, ours are crusty and rusty from a leaking roof.

Was going to replace with some new units from screwfix or the like.

Do your units have the old-style choke ballast with a plug-in starter? They don't work too well in the cold, as many garages are. The newer electronic control units are better in the cold, and the tubes seem to last longer too.

4 of the 5 have the old style starter, the one that refuses to work has the new style. Looks like the tube i need is £2.79 so think i'll stay with old tech lighting for a while smile

Have you seen the LED replacements for florescents?

Wow, they are brilliant and will probably last forever. Shame they are so expensive, though.
