Evening,

Bought a couple of these in white to go against the walls either side of my bay window - size is perfect and very reasonable for the cash.

My room has quite deep skirting, and these bookcases have a silly cut out for the skirting, which is nowhere near the right size, if I shape for my skirting it will mean losing some of the back board so I decided to space them off the wall and buy some melamine board in white to create new bookcase sides...

anyone know where you can buy decent quality white furniture board? ikea is hardly top notch but the stuff in homebase looks pretty nasty in comparison, so I wondered if anywhere else is any better....

many thanks

Buy something else from Ikea that has side panels big enough, use that to customise your Billys?

Take off the skirting, fit the bookcases, trim and refit the skirting.

You could get some more skirting and fit to the bottom of the Billy, to make it look more built in. It would need to fit tightly to the wall, so cut the wall skirting or make a filler panel. Kind of like this (OK, it's Hemnes, but same idea): http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/10/turning-ikea-he...

Just go and buy a single extra shelf and trim that? It'll only be a couple of quid and it'll be a perfect match.

B&Q or Homebase etc - but I think it will look pretty grim. I like Miniman and Spock's ideas better.

I prefer their ideas however the skirting is too high to wrap around and i'd sooner not cut 100 year old skirting to fit a chipboard bookcase...

I shall have a think..thanks for you ideas.
