The issue with that is ... At night he has to lock it for security and then remove the keys inside so that it can be unlocked from outside if his missus comes in late from work.
A couple of euro cylinder locks still work with a key left inside: the Cisa Astral (1-star, but very reliable) and the Abus E90 (3-star anti-snap).

The ABS locks only need the inside key to be moved out by 5mm to allow the outside key to work.
If you leave a key inside the Avocet ABS, I believe it leaves the lock vulnerable by stopping the anti-snap mechanism from working.

It really isn't hard to remember your key!
You clearly haven’t met my wife. The only person I know who can lose the keys for a car she has just driven onto the drive and not yet exited.

A self locking door would be a disaster.

Bought a house with one of these and finding it a pain in the backside.

I’ve got a composite door (installed a couple of years ago) so if I want to revert to a “normal” type is it handle, lock or both?

I honestly can't think of a time where I'd wished a door locked itself compared to plenty of times I've been glad it hadn't! It sounds like one of those solutions to a problem that's never happened if you ask me.
This. New house only has a rimlock and mortice, no handle/latch, so you can't even put it in the snick else the door just blows in the wind.

It will be changed as soon as I have a free Saturday.
