Got a bit of a shock when I went to order some Cole & Son 'Glastonbury Stripe'. Their Calico Birds design is enough at £38/roll and has more ink on it... so (a) how the heck can they charge £65 for simple stripes, and (b) can it be got at a trade price anywhere. Or (c) anything that looks similar?

Unfortunately not... if I had taxpayers to foot the bill there'd be no problem!

I had the same reaction when buying Farrow and Ball for a couple of rooms. But when you think about it in isolation, rather than comparing to other papers, it's actually not that bad. A few hundred quid for something that will make such a big impact is good value, I think. Just go for it.

I know, I know.

Just saying that when you think about it, it probably makes sense to spend some money on something that will have a massive impact on the way your house looks, and therefore, how happy you feel.

If you're happy with a cheaper version, that's the way to go. However, the bigger mistake would be to go with the cheaper version and spend the next 5 years wishing you'd spent an extra £300 on the nice stuff.

Take wallpaper sample to B&Q. Have them match the colour of the stripe, purchase paint, purchase masking tape. Paint stripes.

That was actually forming in the back of my mind! The wall is already painted the lighter of the two colours - but masking tape if pressed too hard will pull the it off, and if not hard enough, the darker paint will seep underneath.

But an aerosol... hmm....

I have some French Hessian in my lounge. Its brown with very small flecks of red green and blue in it although from a distance you cannot see it.

£ 89 a roll but managed to get a couple for free from a job we were on so only had to buy one.....

Hmm. Well I suppose £130 to get my hall decorated is not much, it's just that £130 for two bits of paper is shocking value...

Handpainted hummingbirds I could understand - but how hard is a stripe?

I have some of their Calico Birds wallpaper - a much more intricate design at £38/roll; the colour is identical. So I'm strggling to see how the two fit together...

Try a £12k fabric finished wall!

Which I then bled over after cutting myself in a ceiling void! Thank god for baby wipes, great invention.
