Hi folks,

I have a problem with slugs, year round it seems. They're always in my kitchen and conservatory in the evenings (all at back of house) and I can see evidence of their trails everywhere.

Any tips on getting rid? I have a couple of cats, I guess they are attracted to their food. The house is 1930s with suspended floors.

Cheers

Get to B&Q and get a couple of packs of Slug pellets and a big bag of salt from Tesco on the way home

Apply liberally to garden/put some little piles in the corners of the room, pour salt across door thresholds and/or any other gaps which may be letting them in.

You'll have killed them all by the end of the week.

Having said that, read the instructions on the pellets with regard to your cats to make sure it's safe for them.

Of all the stupid garden products that don't work (lawn weed and feed, I'm looking at you!) slug pellets do work, very well.

Cheers matey, forgot to mention there's a 22 month old toddler running about downstairs and the in garden so pellets won't work frown

I've seen some metal stripping you put round door thresholds. I've tried the beer tick in an old flora tub which worked but didn't get rid. They must have laid eggs somewhere.

They don't like crossing sharp sand or salt, so use them as described above.

This may not help you, but I was having trouble with snails climbing into my hydroponic strawberry tower. I wrapped a 3/4" wide strip of copper tape (from the local garden centre) around the base of the tower, and have had no snails since.

Apparently snails & slugs don't like to crawl over copper due to some electro-chemical reaction with their slime.

I've found Verdone Extra to be quite effective. Maybe you're not referring to that particular product.

Why not use the green option. Jam jar half filled with beer, sunk into the ground (e.g. a flower bed). The gardner is allowed to consume the beer not used in the trap.

i had a big problem and went out on a night out with some table salt and sprinkled it over everyone i saw. Did this every night of the week. Must of spotted about 30 - 40. That was about a month ago and I have seen hardly any since.

Same thing is working here.
