Nope, my old house had a metal tank and a watchman. That was a good few years back though, so things may have changed - don't see why they would, though.

I've got a Watchman at home and one at work, great little gadget.

Watchman works just fine - have changed batteries once in 8 years and a bit of hassle to synch subsequently with monitor but otherwise no issues.

Thanks for the input chaps. Decision made - I'm going to go for a couple of Sonic Watchmans with one stick as a backup. Sounds like a lot of problems with these devices could be caused by not being set up properly in the first place - I'll report back after my first 5 years of ownership wink
I've used a watchman for a couple of years in a previous property and it was great. For the most part you can keep an eye on the level from the comfort of your own home. Just make sure you set it up correctly in the first place.
I never relied on it 100%, but when it's showing tank at about 1/5 full, I'd do a visual check and then order more oil if required. It's not difficult!

As a halfway house between the uber reliable stick and the no so reliable and battery consuming Watchman we went with this option. Dirt cheap and works well.
