Hi All

New house to me anyway. The wind is up and my house makes some sort of daft fog horn like noise, a bit like metal being dragged along concrete or similar.

What on earth is this? Im guessing the wind blowing up the soffets or something?

They didn't do an especially good job sealing up the new windows on my house. At the top of one window, a thin layer of sealant was being pushed by the wind and making exactly the noise you're describing!

Is this an internal or external noise?

I was in Manchester at the Christmas markets last weekend and my word it was windy - so much so that the big slat things on top of the Beatham tower were making the most insane, eerie howling noise I have ever heard - it was audible all over the city centre, very loud and utterly unearthly. Scary sound and so loud it made your chest cavity vibrate a mile away

You'd have thought that after the problems they had with 'B of the Bang' someone would have at least Googled 'votex shedding frequencies'. But apparently not!

Defo an outside noise, windows were done by the previous owner about 6 months ago so this looks probable and sound like it comes from the top of the window

Also see an alarm box on the outside of the house with vents on it, could be that, its defunked anyway

I had this from a down pipe from some guttering. Took me years to work out what it was.

One of the wall brackets half way up the wall had no screws in it. In normal conditions the pipe was secure and the bracket was tight enough on the pipe to not move around.

In high winds the pipe would vibrate and the loose bracket was hammered against the wall at high frequency. The result was a deep loud droning noise upstairs.

I'd guess the chances of you having the same issue are slim but it's worth a look.

I had the exact same issue in my old house. It was a new build and they'd done a horrendous job of sealing round the windows. Some expanding foam sorted it.

There's no rhythm to it then?
