Ah yes, a worthy but flawed attempt at the symbol for "Don't bother with this one - cheap skate"

Don't rub it off !!!

Ps in this modern age of CCTV and other such technology, why wouldn't said spotter take a picture with one of those new fangled camera phones and mail it along with the address to Mr Big?

As much as there is a lot of pisstaking in this thread, in all seriousness if I was in the OP's shoes I'd be pretty concerned!

It makes no sense that the marking is half way up the driveway; I'd expect a criminal-type marking to be out near the pavement/road. Weird that it's in UV as well, seems very professional if you ask me!

I'd be locking down everything and disabling the car in some way. OP is there any way of getting someone to fit a battery isolator? They're cheap as chips and would slow down or even completely stop any scroats trying to nick the motor, even with the keys.

@ Chez Troubleatmill in the last month - the local delivery driver ( amazon etc ) seems to have started taking an unhealthy interest in the house.

Spotted him noticing the positioning of the alarm panel, outside cctv cameras and ( looking to see if there were any in the hallway) and a quick jaunt around the side of the house to where the electricity and phone lines come into the house.... ( my guess... open the white panel - with the blue triangular key ... and cut the power )... he has also vaulted the side gate - to drop stuff off in the back garden.
He's also been asking about number of bedrooms, stuff he has delivered etc etc

Mrs Troubleatmill is now a bit edgy.

I'm now looking at galvanised steel surround for gas/ electric supply, also a UPS for CCTV, spikes for top of fence, side gate etc..

WTH?!

Worrying, I've had loads delivered pre Christmas - 3 regular drivers and one who seems 'off' to me - if I were you I'd be contacting the police and Amazon. Even if you can't prove anything, if he is iffy then it might alarm him and head him off. The worst of it is, if he is an Amazon driver he probably won't pay tax on the proceeds. Barstard...

Ring the delivery company if you have concerns about a driver, you may find that if a previous report has been made he might be switched onto other duties.

My parents have had their house marked before, a small stone placed on the lip of the letterbox, subtle but something that would easily indicate if the house was occupied (it was summer time and my parents were away, I was frequently at the house but not always sleeping there.)

It's far easier to take a subtle picture or not even bother, just note car and address than it is to walk up someone's drive and cleverly draw a picture with a piece of chalk ingeniously attached to ones shoe.
As to identifying addresss, ever hear of a GPS!? Most phone have them these days.

Also these itinerant illiterate foreign individuals, how come the know what cars or houses are worth breaking in to but can't use a smart phone ?

Maybe it was aliens?
I'm quite sure you could argue that a squad of high-tech robbers using carbon fiber augmented reality goggles and encrypted headsets linked back to a cia-black-ops-esque mission HQ full of people looking at satellite feeds overseen by a white-haired admiral gone bad would have it's advantages.

My point was to illustrate where robbers using chalk markings would make sense. there a good reasons why smartphones preloaded with robbery data might not be advantageous, which I though might be obvious, such as if picked up by the fuzz you could be charged with going equipped, linked to other robberies, and linked to other individuals.
Nope, send email, delete sent email, nothing high tech about it
Easy peasy.

Ps did you get one of the Zuckerberg unicorns? Gutted I missed out on that one.
Just on this, if you think that deleting a sent email removes all trace of it you would be mistaken.

So ... has the OP's car now appeared on PH's stolen cars thread?

Has this become the default PH choice for home security? Even when the OP's car is parked on the drive wink

and been seen pointing cameraphone acting suspiciously? And the grunt need s a smartphone and walks along trying to identify the place? no, just chalk fixed to shoe perhaps and a flick of a foot the jobs done.

Spotter will be the only smart one. grunts will be disposable- may not even speak english, be here legally etc. Maybe trafficked and indebted. keep it simple for them.
Seriously? biggrin

You've got a spotter with a special trick shoe with chalk fixed to the sole. What does he do, hop everywhere till he finds a place to deploy The Special Shoe Of Chalk?

Then, you've got these grunts, who rather than simply being told 'go and rob 18 Acracia Avenue' have to trot up and down every driveway in the vicinity peering at the ground looking for the tiny fish symbol that Chalkshoe has mysteriously marked.

Yup, that seems legit. smile

Just picking this topic up again smile

I noticed this morning an elongated Y marked out in chalk outside my house. I'm 99% sure it was not there yesterday. I had to go to the McLaren meet this morning, so Mrs. Kinky took the dog out for a walk up the street. The same markings are located outside random house up along the street.

I got rid of mine straightaway.

Were you helpful and got rid of the others too or have you left them to potential doom?
