Just been out for a long walk with the dog. All along my road, at every corner, there is a very clear letter Y. All the others are very clearly a Y and are at corners, not really specific to any house. The only exception is outside my house, not really on the corner, and is an odd-shaped Y.

Anyhow, a walk around the village showed that all corners have various letters - K, W, R, and Y. Most are white, but some are blue or yellow chalk.

Clearly they are shot-term markings, as the rain would wash them away. And I'd expect council/utilities would use a spray paint.

Anyhow, less concerned now
