Fish or just a cross? A cross means a good target according to a quick google search. I would perhaps review the security of the property to just be sure. Metal lockable window latches? Good locks on the doors? Etc..

Chalk marks are not uncommon, most often used by distraction burglars, but also known in car key burglary. I would personally make an incident report. I'd probably also move the car into a locked garage and out of sight.

Car key theft is a distinct possibility. An R8 would be a target I expect. Motion sensitive flood lights around the property. An IP camera pointed at where the car keys are kept. Install a tracker into the car. Make sure it looks like the property is occupied by using lights with timers. I have seen some people install a pole at the end of the drive that can be unlocked and removed.

At a wild guess it looks like a key theft target as others have suggested with a bit of fishing maybe involved to get at them.

Check your security and clean off the chalk. I'm not sure moving the car will really help as how many days do you do it for?

There doesn't seem to be any evidence that this is actually a real thing, like most things on Facebook.

It looks like an extension of hobo symbols.

I would think such a mark could easily be caused by a stone in the bottom of a shoe.

Another idea. Park your car over the chalk.

It's a shadowmark, made by the Thieves Guild

The international association of professional thIeves (IAPT) have guidelines on these.

I often do it too, if someone is visiting, rather than describe the house, or mention to keep an eye out for a car on the drive, I just tell people head along XX road until you see a small chalk fish drawn halfway up the drive.

Far simpler that way.

Definitely not a pressure washer mark, it wasn't there before I got home tonight.

On further investigation it's not even chalk, it's uv ink that can only be seen when the security light is on...most odd.

I'm not too worried about it, any proper theif would either just steal the car or kick the door in for the keys instead of leaving an obvious sign that they intend to imo

A foreign site but the very symbol is there right enough. 'A fish-shaped sign warns that "the object" is protected by alarms.'

Must not have had a symbol for cctv and a baseball bat hehe

Talking to our local police on an unrelated matter and they warned us that certain types would be interested in our dog and advised the method mentioned here.

It doesn't make sense, which is why I think it's bks. (I don't mean you're making it up I mean the stories about these symbols being left by burglars is bks). As in, why would tealeaves do something like that. In reality they would simply TELL their mate to nick the audi from number 42, or whatever. No tealeaves in this country are sophisticated, they are basically goons who nick stuff. It's not rocket science. Also if it's visible under a security light I assume you mean outdoor security light ie it's not actually a uv light.

Why not move your car a few inches to the right, so that your wheel is completely covering it, then no-one would be none the wiser, and all balance is restored.

Sadly it's not bks.

If I didn't know for a fact that it happens, and more a case of hearsay, I'd be tempted to agree with you.

I agree, i thought as much when i first read about it. Was just rather odd how it's managed to appear at the wheel of my car. I'm sure any potential burglar would just send a text or phone someone instead of putting a symbol in the hope someone else stumbles across it.

Anyway, all cars present this morning, think they had more chance of being blown away last night!

Simply park over the symbol with the car, and the thieves won't know there is a car there to steal.
