Sadly it's not bks.

If I didn't know for a fact that it happens, and more a case of hearsay, I'd be tempted to agree with you.

Why the Hell would a burglar inform a competitor that there's goods to be stolen? He'd take it himself! It doesn't make any more sense than astrology does.

I think you have to be careful as if the car gets stolen the insurance company may not pay out and class it as an act of cod.

It doesn't make any sense. The question remains as to how it got there and why though.

Remove the mark asap - or park over it.
It is likely a mark made by a scout. The thieves will be along later.
I had a chalk cross on my door a few years ago - removed it straight away and nothing happened.

I'm speculating here, but an organised team could have a "spotter" who finds the properties to target, and marks them so when the burglar team swing by that night they have confirmation they are in the right place and know what to expect. With CCTV everywhere these days the spotter wouldn't be seen going to the same place twice, and the burglars would be more efficient as they know what they are looking for.

Ok, I'll assume you're not trying to be one of those clever s.

Simple enough, our yard got broken into and when I met the police there the conversation turned to my dog sat in the truck.
Went on to tell me of two recent events where dogs were taken, one from a farm and one a private residence.
Both had markings to the front of their properties, not glaringly obvious.
So to answer your question, from the police...and not the plastic sort either.

A quick bit of googling suggests it's a sex game signal. Apparently a fish on a driveway is the way for women to signify that any passing bloke is welcome to knock on the door if they want to deposit some of their little swimmers?

The same site suggests that using UV ink is a common approach, as men in the know can find it easily enough whilst leaving the luckless man of the house none the wiser.

It then goes on to say that as you'll never be able to get the UV ink off the paving, the best way to deal with it is to add a harpoon through the fish with your own UV ink.

You'd have the person who drew the fish on the CCTV footage, though!

Might have misunderstood how this works, but why draw a symbol next to the car, up a drive? Wouldn't the thief have to go all the way up the drive while looking at the floor? If the car is parked, isn't the clue that there's s car there, the fact that...there's s car there? Why would they need a symbol on the floor?

How does it work?

Bet there are now lots of worried PH men saying, "I'm just popping to the car / garage dear" Do they use waterproof ink / chalk or whatever it is? And a few more looking down at the pavement while out walking the dog. biggrin

are they checking to see if the car has moved? ie are they on holiday?

If UV ink then I would be concerned.

So, it was drawn on, at half past one in the afternoon by a middle aged, well dressed man. He walked up the drive and drew it on without looking at the car or in the house.

Still none the wiser, local religious nut spreading the message of Christianity? Who knows. I might pop into the police station later on and see if they know who it is or have any other reports.

I'm not that concerned, would like to know why someone would do such a thing though. confused

It does sound stupid, I know.

It's up a drive so doubt it was kids, no risk of flooding here either as half of Glasgow would be flooded before me.

I just thought it was a bit odd when I seen it and remember seeing something about it. Anyway, here is the fish in question.

It's an Ichthys symbol.

You're going to be robbed by the vicar.
