Ebay - search by nearest first and then go and have a look as the quality varies.

Thanks all. We spent a couple of hours hunting the web and ebay and came up with a list that comes to around £2k, so about £1500 saving over the quote from the high-street place. Some stuff is still coming from them, because we've not found items we like anywhere else. The two eBay sellers we've found stuff on are (IIRC) Think Taps and iBath UK, anyone got any experience with either of those?

I bought from these guys

http://www.islandbathrooms.co.uk/

Dealt with the shop rather than their website as they are local to me. Had specific requirements & they were a better price than I could find online anywhere without being challenged on price.

try nicolls and clarke.

I do 1000's of bathrooms each year- they're a one stop supplier- so all yr bathroom gear, tiles, adhesives and so on.

most suppliers have all the same gear in catelogues with simply different covers on.

I wouldn't touch items from B&Q, homebase, bathstore and so on- poor quality, high prices and just not on a comparable with proper suppliers.

Thanks all, very valuable advice.

On a related note (if there's anyone in this thread able to answer this question), we've got a combi boiler (a year old) which supplies the shower in the existing bathroom, i.e. it's not an electric shower. We've been advised to install a 180 litre "unvented cylinder" since we're putting in another shower in the en suite, the reasoning being so that we can have both showers plus other water-consuming stuff running and not have to worry about pressure dropping.

Is this sound advice? These things seem to vary quite a bit in price, how much should we be expecting to pay for one (just to buy, not install, that's covered separately) and what brands are decent/reliable?

For major items there is defiantly an advantage in buying from a physical shop where you can return faulty items etc. Get your prices online, then shop around and get a price match or nearest price from a physical shop. There will always be parts that are missed off the delivery, if purchased from a local retailer you can jump in the car and collect missing items etc.

Also worth looking at some German online stores. I have bought loads of fittings such as toilet roll holders, towel rails and soap dispensers saving a lot over UK prices.

Have you looked at http://www.duravit.co.uk/products/bathroom_furnitu...
Worth looking in detail at each product range or in the brochure as a lot of stuff is not immediately obvious, lots of extra sizes and shapes available. Once you have found the product then shop around for best price. I was surprised at how reasonable their cabinets were.

Based on experience of having had a Megalfow and the POS combi where we are at the moment I would agree with advice
Cost for unvented - high hundreds

The other alternative is to fit an electric shower

Something I'm keen to hear info on as well - ours is a 4bed with bathroom and ensuite, and running off a CD24i combi.

We know the combi isn't beefy enough for a house of this size and in all honesty it's likely to need replacing soon anyway. Hence when it does we'll want to make sure what replaces it is beefy enough, but if it still can't deliver enough to run two water sources at the same time then it sounds like unvented is the way to go.

I was int he shower the other day when the other half put the washing machine on - the drop in flow followed by icy cold water was a hell of a shock!
