Gents,

Looking for hot tub reviews as looking to stick one in my garden.

Putting together decking structure at the moment but need the hot tub footprint to drop it into the ground.

Any recommendations?!

Not to get one seems the obvious answer?

What's wrong with a sex pond?

Better than being a prude, stick to your missionary 3 times a year and go read gardeners world in your honda civic you excitable gentlemen!

It always amazes me how expensive these things are!

I was installing the electrics to one last month, when the owner dropped into the conversation that this model cost £18K!!

£18K for a bit of fibre glass, bit of fake wood, a few pumps, heater etc and a crappy sound system. Plus the running costs!

I've got one of these, and it's great

http://www.thehottubsuperstore.co.uk/hottubs/g2.ht...

It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but only costs 50p / day to run, plugs straight into the mains, and comes with everything you need to get started - filters, chemicals, cover etc. That company will also deliver it to its actual location, install and fill it, and give you full training if needed.

As with all these things, it depends on budget and what usage (big or small family etc). You can pay mega bucks or relatively little, but I do think you get what you pay for to a certain extent.

We bought from Deependpools. Myself and son went to the "showrooms" and sat in the filled tub in our trunks for 30 mins to try it out :-). Wife refused to do this LOL.

Ours is a Saratoga brand and 5+1 layout, so it's at relatively high end of the market for a 7 ft tub. If I was buying again, I'd think carefully about getting one with a "lounger" type seat. I love it, but my wife never uses it as she tends to "float away" when the tub is on as she's not tall to stay stable in the seat.

Apart from that, I don't know why we didn't buy one earlier. Used regularly (in fact, just had a 30 minute soak this afternoon) its definitely a luxury but a nice one ! We find we use it more in the winter (3 or even 4/week) than in the summer. Once you get used to the chemicals regime it's easy to run so long as you are disciplined.

If it's a decent sized one, it will need it's own electricity supply with circuit breaker from the meter. Also consider water supply (long hose for me) and where you will drain it to every 3 months ..mine's 1500 litres.

What is a PITA - is that after 5 years, the plastics of the jets are starting to perish.

I now have lots of of plastic jets bobbing around the hot tub.

At £20 a pop for the small ones.... and I have 12 of those to replace.
And a few of the bigger jets have gone also.

It is adding up to a notable bill.
If I end up replacing every jet.... I'll be close to £1000.

The top cover needs to be replaced at some point... Some £250 - 300.

The cheap Chinese pumps seem to just last 3 years... Another £200-250

I would suggest trying to find out what the total cost of ownership over 5 and 10 years will be.

Just got out of mine after a one hour soak. It's a masterspa which is one of the higher quality ones. Had it 7 years and used almost daily and the only thing that has failed in that time was a run capacitor on the circulation pump which cost £1.99 to repair - of course a 'pro' would of replaced the whole pump for £300 + vat ,kept the old pump and sold it to the next punter after changing the same capacitor.

As noted the water does need looking after, chuck a couple of bromine tablets in, scoop of shock and scoop of ph builder once a week.

They seem to be sold like double glazing with sky high list prices and then discounted down somewhat - but still sold with a hefty margin.

Make sure you get one with water pumps and not air blowers which make the water go cold quickly

They do chug electricity though - around £50 a month.

Genuine question - what's the appeal of sitting in a warm bath of chemicals?

My parents have one - its actually their second as they wore the first out. They use it daily - mum has MS and it keeps her muscles from locking up. The new one uses ozone to do the chemical bit so you don't actually stink when you get out.

That's great that it helps your mum.

Hi there - to my understanding and previous detailed research the 'best' are hot springs and jacuzzi.

I have a hot springs pulse DL tub that I am planning to sell as I will be moving house soon.

https://www.hottubbarn.co.uk/limelight-pulse-dl

It is coming up to 2 yrs old but is fully covered under warranty for another 3 yrs.

It is like new condition so let me know if it is of interest. They are circa £10k new but they depreciate like mad so it would probably be a similar price to some of the cheap inferior tubs out there ( of which there's loads!!!)

Let me know if interested or if you wanted any pics

Cheers

Oh God no! I was just about to go to bed, and now I'm going to have nightmares about your parents wearing out their first sex pond and giving their second a hammering.

Please, somebody pass me the brain-bleach!

Costco had Canadian Spa at about £5.5k and they don't normally sell crap. Don't know much about them though.

I have a Hotsprings Envoy. Had it for nearly 10 years now and it has been impeccable through all of that time. There are probably cheaper brands than Hotsprings but they would get my business again.

We have the Montreal from Canadian Spa which we bought direct.
Lovely little spa cost about £5,500 and the base/electrics came to about another £500 (did the base/electrics myself).

Like the poster above, my wife suffers from MS and it helps a great deal, and is used most days.
It's been in a about 10 mths, minimal maintenance and costs about 50-75p per day.

They are used for other purposes other than a sex pond, although the perception of a Hot tub can't be ignored!

Another vote for hot springs.we habe an aria model.

My wife had a nasty accident a few years ago and has had lots of surgery over the past 3 years on her spine. The hot tub helps my wife function. We use it every day.

I wouldn't have looked twice at one, now we have one I wouldn't be with out it.

We've just bought a Jacuzzi J-335. Looked at lots of models and reviews and this was the one we preferred. It's got a separate 1hp pump for circulation, so it's not using the main pumps all the time. Good warranty and managed to get a decent discount. The J-235 is very good, but we went up a model, you should be able to get a J-225 for £5.5k (6799 list) and a J-335 for about £8k (10799 list).

I had that but bought replacement plastic bits (the bit that you can't see) and swapped over the fronts - think they were about £2 each on ebay
