moved in to my first house last year but still havent bought a lawn mower or strimmer. back garden is around 260sqm and front is around 60. last year i just paid someone to come and sort the grass every 2 weeks but looking back that must have cost me the best part of £300 laugh

can't decide whether to just get a pterol/battery lawn mower or take the plunge into roboland. i'm looking at the McCulloch ROB S400 but it's hard to get a good idea of what these machines are capable of. my main issue is that there's no outdoor power socket but i have been wanting one regardless so i'll probably arrange that either way.

one of the main concerns is that to justify the ROB it's imperative to not also need a mower (i know i'll need to strim the bits the robot cant reach and i'm fine with that), but for instance how does it work with the front and rear garden? i presume it cant work it's way between both patches of grass but can it at least be programmed for both and then manually lifted from front to back every so often? otherwise i'm going to need a lawn mower anyway for the front which defeats the point really...

My mower has just passed 2,000 hours, nice to know he is earning his keep. Can anyone beat that?

Our Husqvarna 330x (aka. Mo) is well over 4500 hours now, and coming up for 6 years old. He still keeps trundling on! In that time he's needed a new loop sensor (£30 or so), and one of his battery packs is iffy/failed (often reports 0v on the diagnostics) so I need to swap those over.

I've got some ebay LED's to pimp him up with headlights (there's a headlight connector on the motherboard inside that the 'official' headlight upgrade uses) which I'll do when the lid is off to swap the batteries.

I keep looking at the Robonect upgrades but haven't quite ordered yet - https://www.robonect-shop.de/ - it adds wifi connectivity, remote operation etc - all of the stuff that the later models get and way more...

Read 3.3.3 - 3.3.5 in the manual:

I'd recommend one wholeheartedly, good looking lawn all the time, no grass cuttings, quiet, frees you up to do other things when the weather's good; but you'll still need a small push mower to go round the edges and pick up leaves in the autumn. Also consider the security of the front garden, these things are expensive and nickable.
awesome that's exactly what i was looking for, thanks. do you have the s400 or s600?

Anyone who has a Flymo or similar, I was reading the flymo Easilife manual and it says to lay the guide wire at 135degrees round corners, not 90 degrees. The previous Bosch I had could deal with 90 degree turns.
If the Flymo cant do 90 degrees does that mean il have extra areas in the corners where il need to use the strimmer?

Evening all!

Recently moved into a new home, approx 200sqm back garden. Smaller front garden, 35sqm or so, will just use a normal mower.

Purchase a Rob S400 for £565 and it was just delivered today. So my question is...

Is a robot mower overkill?
My lawn is the same size and I bought the same mower last year.

I haven't regretted it for a moment. One of the best things I've bought. smile

Cool thanks Durbster!

I have it sitting in the garage, haven't installed yet as I'm still in two minds. I keep thinking what if I change the layout of the garden, and only have 150sqm grass, is it worth it then etc.

I have to buy an electric mower anyway for the front garden, lot smaller but I've no side entrance. Still.. nice to have the back garden sorted I suppose.

I've got the flymo and have quite a few 90 degree turns, some even less so. No issues here

Peg it out and watch it - you can always correct it that way.

Invest the time setting it up, and it's far less effort in the long run.

I looked at that one. Please let me know your thoughts once set up. I think Yardforce are a Chinese outfit that brand different tools. The mower looks decent quality.

I couldn't find much about the brand when looking but at the price and with 3 years warranty I have taken a punt. Worst case I can take it back to tool station. I have seen" THE Range" are selling the same brand now. Just awaiting its arrival in the next few days.

Has any one tried the 'Mac Allister' 250m2 robot mower?

Looking at getting something for our back garden. Lawn area is circa 80sqm (all flat (or it will be once I've finished with the garden this summer).

I did see that B&Q were doing the flymo 1200 for £190 but they look to have all gone.

Or am I better off waiting for Amazon Prime Day in the summer?

Cheers,
Phill

What is the current recommendation for a normal sized lawn. If it makes a difference I already have the guide wire fitted form a very early (pre-production) Bosch robo mower.

Budget up to £500.

^ I think the flymo is probably the most popular on here. I sold my Bosch as I found it troublesome.
