Has anyone successfully extended/replaced the mower&client perimeter wire with a generic/standard cable? The name brand ones at eye watering expensive, and looking at the image of the supplier cable it looks very non-technical!

Similar gauge cable, wired up accordingly.. .. Surely it'd work?
Maplin do some green wire which I found to be perfect. Slightly thinner than the stuff provided by Husqvarna but it's perfect to extend the wire and I've used it lots of times

Hmm, I might actually just do that on ours smile

In the meantime I kept on looking. On Amazon a WR105SI popped up (the only difference is its programmed for 450 rather than 500sqm everything else is the same according to Worx).
...
I was wondering about this. We bought a Gardena R70Li, which is 'optimal' for surfaces up to 700 sq metres as there was a very good deal on it. I suspect the actual surface of the lawn is rather closer to 800 sq metres, which would suit the R80Li better (up to 800 sqm)
What is in fact the difference (same as in what Elanfan describes) - it is merely the speed ?

Same shape as our Flymo - they suit the eyes. Oh, and ours has a personalised plate on the rear hehe

As for coverage - ours is theoretically on the limit, but seems to do a perfectly good job.

I'm selling the Worx mowers at £545 as an end of season special if anyone wants one.

You won't get a better mower.

And they're cute!

Remind us which model that is?
And given a wide wood edge or gravel, can the wire be set so they can effectively mow to the edge?
Finally....any good shots of a lawn that has been robomown for a season?
Thx!

How close to the edge can the M cut compared to the S? Where does the base station need to be located? I was looking at the Flymo 1200R until the price shot up and that requires 1.5m either side of the docking station which would be a right pain.

The landroids need 2 metres either side from memory so even worse.

Weird as I've just seen a video of one where the docking station is tucked away round a corner.

I want to tuck it away neatly in the corner by the step just off the grass itself.

I have seen a robot mower located off the grass (essentially, in a flower bed) and someone used timber (railways sleepers) to "direct" it home. Took a bit of trial and error apparently, but not tried it myself.

Having watched ours, it seems to follow a regular pattern when returning to recharge. It's always to the left of the guide wire, until it's about a metre away. It then stops, rotates 90 degrees... reverses to align with the dock, rotates 90 degrees then reverses into the dock.

Is it a flymo by any chance?
My flymo does exactly as you've described.

How close can the 1200R cut to an edge such as a sleeper?

Leaves around 3" gap so you'll still need a strimmer.

What is the best solution to stop the mower going off the edge of the lawn? Decking boards round the edge are a bit ugly. Ive a Bosch 400 and while it is good and the wire is laid correctly the mower occasionally gets stuck as it turns round and the front wheels fall off the edge into the flower bed. Now as the mower cuts the lawn in different directions then this only happens occasionally. Ive also noticed it sometimes misses a patch of grass. Bit annoying as it wasnt cheap. Ive also tried remapping the lawn but that hasnt solved it.

I just moved the guide wire in a bit at the points that it went off!

I love my Husqvarna 105

Worx Landroid base station can be placed anywhere in the garden.

The mower has advanced AI software which means that it doesn't get stuck in corners or narrow strips of garden.

It doesn't need to map the garden or fart about waiting for gps or magnetic field data.

It just eats grass.

Also has a border cut feature specifically designed to cut round the edges of the lawn.

Although I'm selling some at the moment, I do actually reckon that they are the best out there in the sub £1k range of mowers.

"Allow a straight boundary wire, at least 2m long with no obstacles
to the left and right of the charging base."

Just needs enough room for the mower to be able to leave the charging station and enter the garden.

As it's a Worx, this can be down a narrow passage if you want to hide it away from the neighbours.

What's the deal in terms of how close each model can cut to a sleeper?
