Do be fair, a decent cordless mower with mulching attachment, battery packs and charger is getting to £400-500, so the robot is not out of the calculation yet!

Not far from the truth... although you need to add Robot Mower, Robot Hoover and change "glass" for "cupboard - well stocked" hehe

It's not a bad existence smile

My Bosch 400 connect is OK. I dont know about other makes but mine has a wobble too much, so much so that I couldnt go away and leave it for 2 weeks. Today it got stuck on completely flat grass. The grass is damp but that proved too much for it. When this happens you have to punch in your user code on the mower, so if you were away for 2 weeks it would just sit there. It also needs cleaning as the wet grass has stuck to the bottom and wont move till I clean it. This is the first time its been out this year so maybe it will be better when It goes out everyday and keeps the grass short.

Also what do others do about cutting the edge do you use a separate mower?

Went to RHS Wisley last week and they have a number of Honda Miimos around cutting the grass, first experience of seeing a robot mower in action, and definitely need one in my life. However, based on price I think the Honda won't be an option.

Thanks for the post. How well does it cope with twigs etc? Does the steel blade chop them up, or not?
Apologies for tardy response, only just seen this - yes, the blades are pretty effective at chopping up twigs, leaves shuttlecocks, handles of garden tools left out...

That Bosch sounds like a right flower! Note the pin code is completely useless. It ain't going to stop anyone nicking it, and it's a hassle having to enter it every time. So I just removed it. Means that if you're really bothered on holiday, you could ask a neighbor to restart it easily.

The alarm is pointless as well. Ive just picked mine up to move it - alarm went off so i just switched it off underneath. The alarm is not remotely loud either. It was going off other day and wife said can i hear a beeping noise? You can just about hear it.

Actually the Bosch 350 and 400 series have a bastid pin system which would render them useless if nicked.

After 3 incorrect attempts you get an increasing timeout between further pin entry.

By about attempt 6 you're looking at several hours.

They are also fantastic mowers for small gardens and mow in such a way as to leave faint parallel stripes on the lawn.

I have one in my personal collection.

That may be the case, but it isn't going to stop it getting nicked. It might give you some consolation that the tealeaf won't be able to use it, but you're still missing a mower.

Harry have a look at the Worx mower I linked to in a post above. I've had mine nearly a month now, and it does all the things you want, plus has a 5 year warrantly. Mine cost about £540, has rain sensors, cuts close to the edge, can be programmed to cut on particular days or I can start it with an app on my phone. The grass looks great too, and the mulched clippings also somehow don't stick to your shoes and get walked into the house.

Is a rain sensor needed? I find its damp grass that gets stuck underneath the mower, so irrelevant if its tipping it down.
As today was the first cut i ran the mower 3 times and it still missed a small section in the middle of the grass! ended up remapping the garden and it did it after that.

Im in two minds on this bosch. It's ok but has a wobble too often. If i went away for 2 weeks id come back to long grass.

Fox vs Robomow (short video). In my head, it was more vicious and confrontational. Skynet has a lot to learn yet.

Does anyone have any experience of using a Robo mower for a much larger plot of grass (say, circa, 1.5 acres), please?
