Recommend me a strimmer
Discussion
I bought a battery powered strimmer for this year:
Black & Decker GLC3630L20 36V Cordless Telescopic Grass Trimmer 300mm
Check the reviews,I found it to be a very handy tool. One great aspects that I like is the lack of noise that you get with a high revving 2 stroke engine, so no need for those uncomfortable ear defenders!

Another vote for Stihl, my FS55 turd-flinger (I have dogs) has worked bloody hard for over eight years, with the bare minimum of service. Weeds here in Bulgaria grow a metre a day. I mainly use it with a metal three-lobe grass knife, it's much quieter than the string and you can keep the revs a lot lower too.

We bought a Stihl FS40. It's crap. Phib
It's ergonomically poor and has some sort of daft line mechanism that has a very long central boss that means the machine cannot be used accurately for cutting short edges.
Its biggest problem is the shaft is quite short, so I have to stoop/bend slightly when using it. Oh, and it's not exactly quiet!
Other than that though it's been excellent - easy to start, 100% reliable, very light, loaded with star-profile line it's pretty effective too.
I just picked up a cordless 600w 18v Titan job from Screwfix this Sunday gone. Was £60 IIRC. Seemed alright actually when I used it on some fairly dense weeds and overgrowth. The area was too large though really without it taking all day so I raised my mower to off-road setting and used that.

I have an old banger of a mower that I do that with - instant gardening!I bought one of these yesterday http://www.diy.com/departments/ryobi-rlt6030-elect... and frabkly it's superb.
Having only ever had crappy 200W cheap things it's a revelation, 600W, nice and (reassuringly) heavy and very ergonomically designed it's well worth £40 (and more!)
Used it today and with a 300mm cutting area it makes short work of clearing tall weeds, crazy grass and any other green st growing in the garden.

I bought a Qualcast one from Argos for about £80. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2...
String feeds automatically (unlike my old mains one) and the battery outlasted the grass.
I have one incredibly similar to this, except it has WORX written on the side.String feeds automatically (unlike my old mains one) and the battery outlasted the grass.
It is very very light, weighs bugger all which makes it difficult to use the first couple of times.
I would advise getting two batteries.
The wheels for doing the vertical edges along a path are great.

I just smashed up my crappy Ryobi - it was very therapeutic and I did it to simply destroy the thing so I wouldn't be able to waste hours and hours of my life trying to start the fking thing.
Ryobi - never again.
Please tell me it's not the same as the one I linked to? Firstly, it looks and feels so solid I think I'd hurt myself, and secondly I can't imagine it ever going wrong! Ryobi - never again.

No - it was petrol. Never worked from new, to be honest. And from comments I've had on FB it's a common complaint.Dewalt one for me. I have the batteries and charger so bought the bare tool very impressed with it up to now.
