I am about to have repair done on the insurance and the roofer has sggested a hydrofuge which is basically a waterproofer and anti algi all in one.
Has anybody done it and was it worth it.I would do it my self and use a clear coat if worth it.

Roof tiles are waterproof, and most last at least 50 years with no issues (unless they are cracked, in which case replace them) - I suspect it's yet another con!

How much is he proposing to charge you/the insurance company for this?

No doubt "Roofer" will be along shortly to advise.

Sounds like a bit of a con tbh.

The roof was last about 30 years ago,I'm told but could be older.I want it to last another 15 years, which is roughly how long we think we will be there before moving on.
The repair is on the insurance not the treatment, hence my scepticism to how effective it is.The roofer gave an indication that to redo the complete roof, when it needed doing, would be in the region of 40000Euro.

Ask him if he can spray foam the underside at the same time.

These are the tiles I'm fitting on mine at the moment, they're nearly a 100 years old, have been jet washed, and fitted.

They've had no whizz bang 'Hydrofuge' or anything similar ....because they don't need it. Neither do yours.

Totally agree on waterproofing.

What are your thoughts on moss inhibitor to shaded areas? We had a massive moss build up on our rear roof, and I'd like to avoid it coming back if need be and something like Wet n Go would seem sensible (wouldn't be paying to have it done as access is straightforward...and will try it on the patio first smile).

Copper and moss are not good friends, moss will root on a rough surface, whatever treatment is there.

Unless you own a Chateau that seems extremely high.

As an example my roofer said the average re-roof he does (3 bed semi) is circa £5k
