Just wondering how you should dispose of old bbq gas canisters? Just the small portable ones like this:

A quick google search is inconclusive, with some people saying if they're empty you can put in your household recycling bin?

Or should I take to the local tip? Recently they have put up notices saying they will be charging £6 per gas bottle. I assume the large ones, but if not then £6 is more than I paid for it originally!

Stick it at the end of your drive, with a sign saying "gas bottle, £5". Someone will steal it.

Local tip would take it.

It might be worth checking individual site guidance, as for us not every site takes all items.

I took an old gas canister (large patio gas one) down the tip recently. Just dropped it off, no questions asked, no payment. The way it should be.

Not the type you have pictured CC, but if anyone else is wanting to get rid of a patio gas/butane/propane canister in the south/south west let me know, I need a couple smile

Gumtree / free cycle.

Basically someone else can take it then go to B&Q/petrol station selling Gas they will then only have to pay for the gas otherwise they have to buy/take out a contract on a new bottle.

Wish we had 2 as you don't want to run out mid BBQ/waste gas and buy a new full one returning a not fully used one.

It's a good idea to have 2, however my second was one of the old ones with the legacy attachments that won't fit any modern gas BBQ's.

Take it to your local MP. They'll find a use for it.

!
I put mine the household recycling. Have (double) checked that it was empty I punctured the cylinder with a large nail and then hammered it flat. No complaints from the collectors.

Those can go in the bin!! There tiny and empty pose very little risk.
