Dishwasher went boom yesterday so we have a big emergency. I bought I new one this morning but it is slightly deeper with a recess at the bottom where a plug can fit. This is how the old one was plugged in with the fridge next to it. Can I just entend the wires with something like this or is it not safe/legal?

Wasn't that Debox thingy on Dragons Den a couple of years back? Looks jolly good IMHO, keeps everything out of finger range however whether it's compliant with H&S and Part P and all that crXp is beyond me. I'd use it.

That's a disgraceful bit of wiring, get it sorted out properly.

Hour's work for an electrician to sink a box into the wall where you want and modify the wiring to suit.
