The Richard Burbidge thread prompted me...

I need a staircase to run up to my loft. It needs to be a spiral staircase, and I don't want a bog standard "column up the middle" job.

The sort of thing I'd really like would be the below. Mine will be smaller than this, but it's this sort of thing that I think I'm after - make a bit of a feature out of it rather than it looking like an escape stair!

I have a carpenter who I've used on other jobs with success, but he's run a mile from this smile

Any suggestions?

I cant help. But I can just imagine the carpenter running for the hills when you showed him that picture. biggrin

Specialised job indeed. Is that even legal in the UK?

I will drop you a PM with his number.

I know he is booked up till Feb at the moment, so maybe see what sort of prices you're looking at first and I will have a word with him for you?

He is in Norfolk and does loads in London so location not a problem.

Excellent.

I'm in no rush but want to prep myself budget wise.

As far as planning is concerned, I can do the works inside the upper space without the staircase, and then there's absolutely no rush.

Price and design will be key...not necessarily in that order!

Column up the middle job, but an interesting take on it.

Grand designs had something similar tonight.

Looks good....but wouldn't suit my application.
